- Fits the smallest rooms: At 90cm wide it leaves floor space free for a desk, wardrobe and toy storage, which matters in a child's bedroom where the bed competes with everything else.
- Pocket springs for growing sleepers: Individual springs respond to the sleeper's weight rather than moving as one unit, giving a teenager proper support as they grow rather than a basic open-coil feel.
- A practical guest room choice: Two UK singles plus a walkway fit where one double dominates, so a spare room can sleep visiting family without giving up the desk or the door swing.
- Cheap, easy bedding: Standard single sheets and a 135 x 200cm single duvet fit, and both are the most widely stocked and least expensive bedding of any UK size.
- Suits loft rooms and awkward spaces: The narrow footprint slots under a sloped ceiling or into a study that doubles as guest space, where wider sizes simply will not go.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for a child's or teenager's room and want pocket spring support rather than a basic budget mattress, you're kitting out a spare room or a first flat where the frame is a standard single, or you sleep alone in a compact bedroom and would rather keep floor space than size up.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed, or you're a solo adult who likes room to spread out. Couples should go for the UK double, where we suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m of floor space, and a solo sleeper wanting more width would be better served by the UK small double.

How big is the Grand Duke mattress in a UK single?
It measures 90 x 190cm, which is 3ft x 6ft 3in. That is the standard UK one-person size, so it fits any standard single bed frame, and single sheets and duvets fit without adjustment. We suggest a room of at least 2.1m x 2.8m to leave sensible space around the bed.
Is the Grand Duke UK single a good choice for a child's bedroom?
It suits an older child or teenager well. The pocket springs respond to the sleeper individually, which gives a growing body better support than a cheap open-coil mattress, and the 90cm width leaves room in the bedroom for a desk and storage. For a very young child, check the brand's own age guidance first.
Will the Grand Duke UK single fit a bunk bed or mid sleeper?
The width matches standard bunk and mid sleeper frames, which take a UK single. The catch is depth: raised frames often have a maximum mattress depth for safety rails, and British Bed Company doesn't publish a depth for this mattress. Confirm the measurement with the retailer before buying for a bunk.
Should I get the Grand Duke in a UK single or a UK small double?
The UK single is 30cm narrower than the UK small double; both are the same length. For a child or a standard guest bed, the UK single is the sensible pick. A solo adult who wants space to stretch out, and has a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m, would find the UK small double more comfortable.
Can two Grand Duke UK singles work in a guest room?
Yes, and it is often more flexible than one double. Two UK singles suit guests who are family or friends rather than a couple, and each needs only 90cm of width. Check the prices shown on this page against the sibling sizes, as pocket spring mattresses are sometimes priced closer than you'd expect.
