Layer Details
- Cover. A cotton-rich cover sits on top. Cotton is breathable, which means it helps the sleep surface stay a little cooler than fully synthetic fabrics.
- Cushion layer. A dense cushion layer provides comfort to an already firm mattress. In practice, that means a touch of give at the surface before you reach the firmer support beneath.
- Spring unit. The spring unit forms the supportive core of the mattress. This is where the firm, orthopaedic-style feel comes from.
Layer details from mattressman.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- 75cm each for two people sharing: You each get 75cm of width, which on an extra firm surface means room to lie flat and stay put without negotiating territory.
- Pocket springs limit partner disturbance: Pocket springs move individually, which means an early alarm or a restless partner on one side transfers less across the bed.
- Extra length for taller sleepers: At 200cm long, the UK king is 10cm longer than the UK double, a genuine relief if either of you is approaching six foot.
- Firm support across the full width: The extra firm spring unit keeps the surface consistent edge to edge, so neither sleeper rolls towards a soft spot in the middle.
- A little give before the firm core: The dense cushion layer and cotton-rich cover add a touch of surface comfort, which means the extra width feels usable rather than board-like.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and a double has started to feel cramped, especially since you both prefer a firm, supportive surface with no roll-together. Or one of you is tall enough that your feet reach the end of a standard 190cm mattress, and the 200cm length of the UK king solves that. Your room can take our suggested minimum of 2.7m x 2.9m.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom falls short of our suggested 2.7m x 2.9m, or you sleep alone. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter, needing at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

Is a UK king Legend Ortho big enough for a couple who both move around at night?
It should be. At 150cm wide you get 75cm each for two people sharing, and the pocket spring construction means movement on one side transfers less to the other. On an extra firm mattress you also stay on your own patch rather than drifting into a dip in the middle, which helps restless couples.
Will the king size Legend Ortho suit a tall sleeper?
The UK king is 200cm long, which is 10cm longer than the UK single, small double and double. If either of you is approaching six foot, that extra length stops feet hanging off the end. Anyone comfortably over six foot may still want to lie on it in-store first, but for most tall sleepers the length is the point of this size.
What room size do I need for the Legend Ortho in a UK king?
We suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m, which leaves room to walk round the bed and open drawers. In a new build master bedroom, measure with the wardrobes in place before committing, as these rooms often feel smaller once furniture goes in. If space is tight, the UK double needs at least 2.6m x 2.8m.
Should I get the Legend Ortho in a king or a super king?
The UK king is 30cm narrower than the UK super king, and the two are the same length. If you share with a dog who claims a stripe of the bed most nights, or you simply want maximum space, the UK super king is the answer, but allow at least 3m x 2.9m of room. For most couples the UK king is the practical middle ground.
Does the extra firm feel change in the larger sizes of the Legend Ortho?
No, the extra firm feel is the same across every size, so the UK king feels identical underfoot to the smaller ones. What changes is how that firmness works for two people: with 75cm each, you can both lie in your preferred position without compromising, which is where a firm mattress and a wider size complement each other.
