Soft-touch damask cover
A woven damask fabric cover, which means a traditional, hardwearing sleep surface rather than a plush knitted one. It keeps the top of the mattress smooth and practical for a child's bed.
Insulator pad
This sits between the cover and the springs, which means you feel a cushioned surface rather than the coils beneath. It is a standard comfort barrier in open coil designs.
Open coil spring unit
A single interconnected spring system that gives a soft, slightly springy feel across the whole mattress. It suits lighter sleepers well, although it offers less motion isolation than pocket springs, which matters little in a child's single bed.

- Room for a growing child: At 135cm wide, the UK double is 45cm wider than the UK single, so a child moving up gains real space rather than a marginal upgrade.
- Same length as the single: The UK double and the UK single are the same length, which means sizing up needs a wider room, never a longer one.
- Fits most UK bedrooms: We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m, comfortably within reach of a typical second bedroom or first flat.
- Easy to dress on a budget: Standard double sheets fit the 135 x 190cm footprint, and the 18cm depth means cheaper fitted sheets go on without a struggle.
- Sensible for occasional guests: Two people sharing get 67.5cm each, enough for visiting guests a few nights a year, although the soft feel favours lighter sleepers.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for an older child or teenager who has outgrown a single and has the floor space to spare, you need a low-cost bed for a guest room that's used a handful of times a year, or you're furnishing a whole home at once and want the child's room sorted without eating into the budget for everything else.
Consider another size if...
You're buying for a young child, the room is tight once a wardrobe and drawers go in, or the bed will only ever sleep one. We'd recommend the UK single instead; allow at least 2.1m x 2.8m for it.

Is the Capsule Essentials double big enough for a couple?
In footprint, yes: at 135 x 190cm, two people get 67.5cm each, the traditional shared width. In practice this is a soft children's mattress with an open coil spring unit built for lighter bodies, so it works for occasional guests rather than adults sharing every night.
What size room do I need for the Capsule Essentials in a UK double?
We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That's our own guidance rather than the manufacturer's, and the roomier figure is worth aiming for if you want bedside tables on both sides plus a wardrobe.
Should I buy my child the Capsule Essentials in a single or a double?
The UK double is 45cm wider than the UK single, and both are the same length. For a young child in a smaller room, the UK single leaves more floor for play and storage. For a teenager you'd rather not upgrade again in two years, the UK double is the longer-term buy if the room takes it.
What are the dimensions of the Capsule Essentials double mattress?
It measures 135 x 190cm, which is 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in, with a depth of 18cm. That's the standard UK double footprint, so any double bed frame, sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet will fit it.
