Emma cover
A cover that's gentle on your skin and completely removable. It machine washes at 40°C, which means keeping the sleep surface fresh is genuinely easy.
MemoryAdapt Foam
This enhanced foam moulds to your body's unique shape and distributes your weight evenly. In practice, that eases pressure points and keeps you comfortably supported.
Soft foam layer
An upgraded soft foam that gently adapts to your body from the very first moment. It helps ease pressure points and makes it easier to settle into a comfortable position.
SupportBase
SupportBase cushions your body and eases strain on sensitive pressure points. It also creates a smooth transition to the core layers, so you shouldn't feel any abrupt change in firmness as you sink in.
Spring system
The springs are divided into 5 targeted zones that adapt to you head-to-toe. A new comfort foam edge improves support towards the sides of the mattress.
Bottom cover
This layer anchors the mattress and grips your bed frame. That means less sliding about when you change the sheets or shift position at night.
Layer details from emma-sleep.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Room to share in a real bedroom: At 135cm wide, two people get 67.5cm each for two people sharing, which works well for couples who sleep fairly close anyway.
- Fits where a king wouldn't: The UK double is 15cm narrower than the UK king, and that gap is often what keeps bedside tables on both sides of the bed.
- Zoned support for two different bodies: The 5 targeted spring zones support each sleeper head-to-toe, so a lighter partner isn't left perched on a surface set up for the heavier one.
- Foam that limits partner disturbance: The MemoryAdapt Foam moulds to each sleeper individually, which means one person turning over transfers less movement across a bed you're sharing at this width.
- Easy to dress on a budget: Double sheets and 200 x 200cm double duvets are stocked everywhere, so kitting out this size costs less effort than the rarer widths.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed most nights and want the classic couples' size that still leaves floor space for wardrobes and drawers, you're furnishing a guest room that has to cope with visiting couples, or you sleep alone and want genuine room to spread out. Allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m of bedroom, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both sleep spread out, or one of you is broad-shouldered and 67.5cm each feels tight. Provided your room stretches to it, we'd recommend the UK king instead, which is 15cm wider than the UK double.

Is the Emma Original Classic double big enough for two adults?
For most couples, yes. The UK double gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing, and the Emma's 5-zone springs support two different body shapes independently. That said, if either of you is a restless or spread-out sleeper, the UK king is 15cm wider and worth considering while your room allows it.
What room size do I need for the Emma Original Classic in a UK double?
We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That guidance is ours, not Emma's, and it assumes you want walking space on both sides plus room for a wardrobe. The mattress itself takes up 135 x 190cm of that.
Should I get the Emma Original Classic in a double or a king?
The UK double suits couples in typical UK bedrooms: it leaves space for furniture and bedside tables on both sides where the UK king can crowd the room. If your bedroom is comfortably above 3m x 3m and you both like space, size up. If floor space is tight, the double is the sensible call.
Does the Emma double work in a guest room?
It's a strong guest room choice. The UK double handles visiting couples and solo guests alike, the medium firm feel suits most sleepers, and double bedding is cheap and easy to find. The removable cover washes at 40°C, which is handy for a bed used by different people through the year.
