- Cover. A sumptuously soft natural cover designed for enhanced breathability, which means heat can escape rather than build up around you. It also carries an antibacterial finish.
- Comfort layers. Deep polyester comfort layers sit beneath the cover. These provide the cushioning you feel first, softening the firm springs slightly at the surface.
- Springs. The support core uses individually wrapped pocket springs, 800 of them in the king size. Each spring moves independently, which means less disturbance when a partner turns over.

- Fits the typical UK bedroom: At 135 x 190cm, the UK double leaves space for wardrobes and drawers where a UK king would dominate, which matters in most British homes.
- Room for bedside tables both sides: Allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m and you'll usually keep a bedside table on each side, so neither of you loses a lamp or a phone charger.
- Less disturbance when sharing: With 67.5cm each for two people sharing, the individually wrapped pocket springs help too, moving independently so a restless partner is less likely to wake you.
- Firm support for two: The firm tension holds its shape across the width, which means neither sleeper rolls towards the middle as the mattress ages.
- Easy to dress and replace: Double sheets and duvets are sold everywhere at every price, useful if you're kitting out a first flat or a guest room on a spread budget.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and your bedroom sits comfortably around the 2.6m x 2.8m minimum we suggest, or you sleep alone and want space to stretch out, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner. It also suits a guest room that hosts visiting couples, where firm support pleases most backs and the familiar size keeps bedding simple.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like space, and your room can take a bigger bed. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer; we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for it, and the extra width is noticeable every night.

Is the Harewood UK double big enough for two adults?
It works for most couples: 67.5cm each for two people sharing, which is the traditional UK standard. The firm tension helps here, as neither of you sinks towards the centre. That said, if you're both broad-shouldered or one of you sleeps starfished, the UK king's extra 15cm of width would be money well spent.
What room size do I need for the Harewood in a UK double?
We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That allows walking space on both sides and, in most layouts, a bedside table each. Measure with your wardrobe and drawers in place rather than the empty room, since it's the leftover floor that decides how the bed feels.
Should I get the Harewood in a double or a king?
Go by the room first. The UK double is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king, and it fits comfortably where a UK king would crowd the walls. If you have at least 2.7m x 2.9m and you share every night, the UK king gives each of you noticeably more shoulder room.
Will the UK double Harewood fit up narrow stairs?
At 135 x 190cm it's the largest size that regularly manages tight turns in older terraces and narrow new build landings, one reason it remains Britain's default couples' size. Pocket sprung mattresses shouldn't be bent sharply though, so measure your stairwell and any awkward corners before ordering rather than after.
What bedding fits the Feather & Black Harewood double?
Standard UK double sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet. The Harewood is 21cm deep, shallower than many modern mattresses, so standard-depth fitted sheets tuck under cleanly with no straining at the corners. There's no need to hunt for extra-deep bedding, which keeps things cheap and easy to replace.
