Comfort Layer
100% Yorkshire wool blended with silky-smooth mohair, chosen for its springy, soft and resilient qualities. In practice that means a comfortable surface that recovers its shape rather than developing dips quickly.
Additional Comfort Fillings
Fine cotton, flax and hemp fibres that are naturally breathable and wick away moisture. You should feel noticeably cooler through the night than on a foam-heavy mattress.
Support System
Over 9,000 individual pocket springs encased in breathable fabric, each reacting independently. This gives tailor-made support and pressure relief, with less motion transfer if you share the bed.
Layer details from mattressonline.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Fits almost any room: At 90cm wide it needs only 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space by our guidance, so a desk, wardrobe and toy storage can still fit around it.
- Natural fillings for growing sleepers: Yorkshire wool, mohair, cotton, flax and hemp breathe and wick moisture, which means a cooler night for children and teens who often run warm.
- A serious upgrade for a spare room: Guests get the same 9,000-plus pocket springs as the larger sizes, so the guest bed stops feeling like the second-best bed in the house.
- Hypoallergenic by nature: The fillings are naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic, a genuine reassurance if you're buying for an allergy-prone child.
- Check the depth against raised frames: At 29cm this is a tall mattress, so measure the guard rail height on any bunk, cabin or mid sleeper before you commit.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for a child or teenager and want a natural, breathable mattress that will last through the growing years, you sleep alone in a compact bedroom or loft conversion where a 90cm footprint is all the slope allows, or you're furnishing a spare room and want guests to sleep on something better than an afterthought.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult who shares the bed, even occasionally, or you simply want more room to stretch out. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which is 45cm wider and the same length; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m of floor space for it.

Is the Harrison Spinks Alwoodley 9750 UK single big enough for an adult?
For one adult, yes. At 90 x 190cm it's the standard UK one-person size, and the medium firm feel with over 9,000 pocket springs supports a solo sleeper well. Taller adults should note the 190cm length; the UK king is 10cm longer if height is a concern. It isn't suited to sharing.
What room size do I need for the Alwoodley 9750 UK single?
We suggest at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space, which is our own guidance rather than the manufacturer's. That allows room to walk alongside the bed and open drawers. In practice the UK single fits rooms where no other size will, including box rooms and beds tucked under a loft conversion's slope.
Will the UK single Alwoodley 9750 fit a bunk or mid-sleeper frame?
The 90 x 190cm footprint matches standard UK bunk and mid-sleeper frames, but the depth needs checking. This mattress is 29cm deep, which is taller than many bunk beds allow; guard rails must sit safely above the mattress surface. Measure your frame's maximum mattress depth before buying, particularly for a top bunk.
Should I buy the UK single or size up to the UK double?
If the sleeper is a child, a teenager or an occasional guest, the UK single is the sensible buy and leaves far more floor space free. If it's an adult's everyday bed and the room can take it, the UK double is 45cm wider at the same length, a noticeable difference for anyone who moves about in the night.
Is the UK single Alwoodley 9750 a good buy for a guest room?
Yes, particularly where you want two beds rather than one, since two UK singles with a walkway between them fit where a larger size wouldn't. Standard single sheets and a 135 x 200cm duvet fit, both cheap and easy to find. It's a premium spend for occasional use, but guests will notice the difference.
