Layer Details
Cover
An in-house woven cover that meets fire safety standards without FR chemicals, which means fewer additives next to your skin. A small but genuine plus for anyone conscious of what goes into their bedding.
Wool comfort layer
A layer of British wool sits near the surface, giving that plush, sumptuous first impression when you lie down. Wool also handles temperature well, so it stays comfortable through the night.
Blend comfort layer
A blend of cotton, hemp and flax wicks moisture away from you as you sleep. In practice that means a fresher, drier feel, particularly useful if you run warm.
Hemp and Ecotex layer
Layers of hardwearing hemp and strong Ecotex fibres add structure to the mattress. This helps reduce dips forming in the surface over time.
Micro springs
A layer of 2500 micro springs provides additional bounce that adapts to your body. These respond quickly as you move, so changing position feels easy rather than effortful.
Pocket springs support system
The base is 1000 Cortec Quad Revolution pocket springs, each with a smaller support spring nested inside a larger comfort spring, wrapped in a cloth pocket and secured in groups of four. The result is a softer initial feel backed by deeper support when you need it.

- Room to spread out alone: At 120 x 190cm the UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, so you can shift position freely across those responsive micro springs.
- Fits compact double bedrooms: It's 15cm narrower than the UK double, which can be the margin between a door that clears the bed frame and one that doesn't.
- A softer feel suits solo sleepers: The soft to medium feel works well for lighter sleepers, and sleeping alone means nobody heavier disturbing the surface beside you.
- Natural fillings in a smaller room: Wool, cotton, hemp and flax breathe well, useful in box rooms and loft conversions where warm air tends to gather.
- Standard 4ft bedding: Small double is a common UK size, so fitted sheets and frames are easy to find, and a standard double duvet works fine.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a UK single but your room can't take a full double, you're furnishing a loft conversion or box room where every centimetre of walkway matters, or you're setting up a guest room that hosts the occasional couple rather than two people every night.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed most nights, as 120cm is a squeeze for two adults long term. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which is 15cm wider; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m of room for it.

Is the Bronze 3500 small double big enough for a couple?
For occasional nights, yes: two adults can share 120cm of width, and the 2500 micro springs respond quickly so movement feels easy. For nightly sharing it's tight, and we'd suggest the UK double, which is 15cm wider at the same length. As a guest room mattress for visiting couples, the small double is a sensible fit.
Will the Bronze 3500 small double fit in a box room?
We suggest a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m for a UK small double, which covers most box rooms and small second bedrooms. At 120cm wide it leaves walking space where a 135cm double wouldn't. Measure with the door swing in mind: in the smallest rooms, that's often what decides it.
What size sheets fit the Bronze 3500 in a small double?
You need small double, or 4ft, fitted sheets at 120 x 190cm, and it's worth checking the depth too, since this mattress is 27cm deep. For the top layer a standard double duvet works well, giving a comfortable overhang on both sides for one sleeper or an occasional pair.
Is a small double good for a teenager upgrading from a single?
Yes, and it's a common reason to buy this size. The UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single but exactly the same length, so it adds real stretching room without eating much more floor space. The Bronze 3500's soft to medium feel also tends to suit lighter sleepers well.
How much smaller is the small double than the king in this mattress?
The UK small double is 30cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king. If you're tall or share every night, the UK king is the more comfortable long-term choice, but it needs a room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m. The small double is the pick where floor space is the constraint.
