- Room to sleep apart, together: The UK king is 15cm wider than the UK double, which means less accidental contact when one of you turns over at 3am.
- Pocket springs limit disturbance: Each spring compresses independently, so when one partner gets up hours before the other, the movement is far less likely to travel across the bed.
- Extra length for taller sleepers: At 200cm, the UK king is 10cm longer than the UK double, a real difference if either of you is approaching 6ft.
- Firm support across the full width: The firmer feel keeps you on top of the surface rather than sinking, useful when a partner, a pillow fort or the dog claims part of your side.
- Fits more rooms than a super king: We suggest a room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m, which most UK master bedrooms can manage where a wider bed would struggle.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and a double has started to feel cramped, especially if one of you keeps different hours and you want their movements to stay on their side. It also fits if either partner is tall, since the 200cm length gives welcome extra legroom, or if you like a firm, supportive surface and sleep mostly on your back or front.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom is smaller than the 2.7m x 2.9m we suggest for a UK king, particularly a new build master once wardrobes go in. We'd recommend the UK double instead, allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

Is the Emerald 16500 in a UK king good for couples on different schedules?
Yes, and this is where the size and the construction work together. The UK king gives you 75cm each for two people sharing, and the pocket springs respond to each body independently. When one of you gets up early or comes to bed late, the other feels far less of it than on a mattress where the springs move as one unit.
Is the UK king Emerald 16500 long enough for someone over six foot?
It should be. The UK king is 200cm long, which is 10cm more than the UK double, and that extra length is often the real upgrade for taller sleepers rather than the width. If you currently wake with your feet at the edge of a 190cm mattress, this size removes that problem.
What room size do I need for the Emerald 16500 in a UK king?
We suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m so you can walk round the bed and open drawers without shuffling sideways. That guidance is ours, not the manufacturer's. Smaller rooms can technically take a 150 x 200cm mattress, but a firm mattress you can't get in and out of comfortably is a daily irritation.
Should I choose the UK king or the UK super king in this mattress?
It mostly comes down to your room. The UK king is 30cm narrower than the UK super king, and the two are the same length, so sizing up buys width only. The UK super king needs at least 3m x 2.9m by our guidance. If your room clears that easily and you both spread out, size up; otherwise the UK king is the safer fit.
