Layer Details
- Wool. Soft, springy British wool moulds around your body shape, which means the surface adapts to you rather than pushing back. It's naturally breathable yet insulating, so it helps regulate temperature across the seasons.
- Cotton, Wool, Hemp and Flax blend. Additional layers of cotton and wool blended with hemp and flax fibres improve airflow within the mattress. They also wick away moisture, keeping the sleep surface drier and fresher.
- Mini Pocket Springs. A layer of 14000 mini springs contours to your body for personalised comfort. Because they're springs rather than foam, air can still move through the layer.
- Posturfil Springs. These 1500 Posturfil springs are highly flexible and adaptable, sensing movement as you shift position. In practice that means the mattress responds to you through the night rather than leaving you to settle into one spot.
- Cortec Quad Revolution Pocket Springs. The base layer uses 1000 award-winning Cortec Quad Revolution pocket springs, a dual design with mini springs placed inside regular springs. Each sits in an individual pocket, secured in groups of four, which means support stays localised to where your body needs it.

- Room to spread out alone: At 30cm wider than the UK single, this size lets a solo sleeper change position freely, which suits the gentle, contouring feel of this mattress.
- Fits compact double bedrooms: Being 15cm narrower than the UK double, it can be the difference between a door that clears the bed and one that doesn't in a box room or studio.
- Natural fillings in a smaller footprint: The wool, cotton, hemp and flax layers breathe and wick moisture, so a small double in a snug, warm room should still sleep cool.
- Support that stays where you lie: The pocketed Cortec Quad Revolution springs localise support, so a solo sleeper on one side of the 120cm width won't feel the surface dip elsewhere.
- A practical guest room choice: Couples can share for the odd night, and the soft to medium feel is forgiving for visitors whose preferences you can't predict.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a single but your room can't take a full double, or you're furnishing a guest room where couples stay occasionally rather than nightly. It also suits a downsized bedroom or loft conversion where every centimetre of floor matters, provided you prefer a softer, contouring surface over a firm one.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, in which case 120cm of width will feel tight over time. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which is 15cm wider and the same length; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m of room for it.

Is a small double big enough for one adult on the Palladium 16500?
Comfortably, yes. The UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, which gives a solo adult real freedom to move. That suits this mattress well: its soft to medium feel encourages you to settle in, and the extra width means you can shift position through the night without reaching the edge.
Can a couple sleep on the Palladium 16500 small double?
For occasional nights, yes. The pocketed springs keep support localised, so one person turning over shouldn't disturb the other. For every night, though, 120cm of width is a squeeze for two adults, and the UK double or UK king of this mattress would serve a couple far better long term.
What room size do I need for a small double mattress?
We suggest allowing at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That leaves enough space to walk around the bed and open drawers or a door. In a loft conversion or box room, the small double's footprint of 120 x 190cm often fits where a UK double, at 15cm wider, would block movement.
How does the small double compare to the double in this mattress?
The UK small double is 15cm narrower than the UK double, and the two are the same length. The feel, fillings and spring construction are identical, so the choice comes down to space: if your room meets the 2.6m x 2.8m we suggest for the UK double, and you share the bed, size up.
Will standard bedding fit the Palladium 16500 in a small double?
You'll need small double (4ft) fitted sheets, as double sheets will sit loose on the 120cm width. A standard double duvet works fine on top. The 4ft size is a standard UK format, so sheets and frames are widely available, though the range is a little narrower than for a UK double.
