Layer Details
- Comfort layer. Layers of plush British wool sit at the top, which means natural temperature regulation. You should feel cosy in winter and refreshed in summer.
- Comfort layer blend. Cotton and wool fibres are blended with hardwearing hemp and flax. These tougher natural fibres help the comfort layers keep their feel for longer.
- Sustainable layer. A layer of Ecotex fibres, made from recycled materials, completes the comfort section. It adds strength and durability rather than softness.
- Support system. Layers of 10,500 mini springs contour to your body for personalised comfort. An additional 1,000 Posturfil springs respond to your movements and weight distribution.
- Spring system. The base uses 1,000 Cortec Quad Revolution springs, each encased in its own pocket and secured into groups of four. Each of these springs contains a mini spring inside it, adding a second stage of response.

- The classic couples' footprint: At 135 x 190cm, or 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in, it fits comfortably in rooms where a UK king would leave little space to move.
- 67.5cm each for two sharing: Two people get 67.5cm each, and the layered mini spring system means one partner's movement is far less likely to disturb the other.
- Room for bedside tables on both sides: In a typical UK master bedroom, a UK double usually leaves space for a table each side, which matters when you share every night.
- Wool comfort for two body temperatures: Couples rarely run at the same heat, and the British wool layers regulate temperature for each sleeper rather than trapping warmth between you.
- Easier to manoeuvre than larger sizes: A 29cm-deep pocket sprung mattress is heavy, and the UK double is a more manageable carry up the turning stairs of older terraces.
- Bedding stocked everywhere: Double sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet are sold at every price point, a small saving that helps offset a premium mattress.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and your room sits around the typical UK size, where a UK king would crowd the space, or you sleep alone and want genuine room to stretch out under natural fillings. It also suits a well-used guest room that hosts visiting couples, since the soft to medium feel accommodates a range of sleepers without dividing opinion.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like space, or one of you is a restless sleeper, and your room measures at least 2.7m x 2.9m. In that case we'd recommend the UK king instead, which is 15cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double.

Is a UK double Harrison Spinks Platinum 12500 big enough for a couple?
For most couples, yes. You get 67.5cm each for two people sharing, and the 12,500-spring system responds to each sleeper's weight independently, so you shouldn't feel every turn your partner makes. Taller or broader couples, or anyone used to a UK king, may find it a little snug, in which case sizing up is the better spend.
What room size do I need for the Platinum 12500 in a UK double?
We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That allows walking space on both sides plus bedside tables, which most couples want. The mattress itself measures 135 x 190cm, so measure your room with wardrobes and drawers in place before deciding, especially in a first flat or second bedroom.
Should I choose the Platinum 12500 in a UK double or a UK king?
It comes down to your room. The UK double is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king, and it suits rooms where a king would dominate. If your bedroom offers at least 2.7m x 2.9m and you both value space, the UK king is worth it; otherwise the UK double keeps the room usable.
Where can I buy the Harrison Spinks Platinum 12500 in a UK double?
Availability shifts, so the most reliable answer is the live comparison table on this page, which shows the retailers currently stocking the UK double and their prices, updated as retailers change them. Because this is a premium mattress, it's worth comparing before you commit, as the same size can be listed at noticeably different prices.
Will a UK double Platinum 12500 fit up narrow stairs?
At 135cm wide and 29cm deep, it's a substantial pocket sprung mattress that won't fold or roll like foam, so it needs to turn corners intact. It's a more manageable carry than the UK king or UK super king, but if you have a tight new build landing or a turning staircase in an older terrace, measure the route first.
