Layer Details
- Cover. A damask cover that's soft to the touch. It's the traditional choice for a handcrafted mattress and feels pleasingly plush.
- Wool comfort layer. Layers of British wool blended with hemp and flax fibres, which means a sumptuous, plush surface that shapes around your body. Expect snug cosiness rather than a springy top.
- Cotton blend comfort layer. A cotton, hemp and flax blend layered throughout the mattress. Cotton is naturally soft and good at wicking away moisture, helpful if you run warm at night.
- Mini pocket springs. 1,800 mini Posturfil springs adapt with your body as you move through the night. A further 10,000 bouncy mini springs create pockets of airflow for lasting freshness and extra comfort.
- Support system. 700 Cortec Quad springs, grouped in fours within fabric pockets, give a flexible base of support. The system is made completely glue-free, so it's more easily recyclable at the end of its life.

- 90cm of width each: Two sharers each get 90cm, so if your partner tosses and turns you'll feel it far less, and the pocket springs limit what does travel across.
- Space for the whole household: Children wandering in at 3am, or a large dog who treats the bed as his own, are far easier to absorb across 180cm of width.
- A soft feel without crowding: The wool, hemp and flax fillings let you settle into your own cradled spot, and at this width you're never pushed towards the middle.
- Suits a larger master bedroom: In a big period bedroom or a generous new build master, a UK king can look undersized, whereas the super king fills the space properly.
- Fewer arguments over the edge: With 30cm more width than a UK king, neither sleeper ends up clinging to their side, useful given the gentler, more enveloping surface.
- Standard bedding fits: Because 180 x 200cm is a stocked UK standard, super king sheets and duvets are easy to find, though they do cost more than king equivalents.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and one of you sleeps restlessly, or children and pets regularly join you and a UK king has started to feel crowded. It also fits if you have a large master bedroom, ideally 3m x 2.9m at minimum by our guidance, and you want a soft, natural-fill mattress with enough width that two people can enjoy that cradling feel without touching.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom is smaller than the 3m x 2.9m we suggest, or you'd rather spend less on a size you'll barely use the edges of. We'd recommend the UK king instead: it's the same length, 30cm narrower, and needs at least 2.7m x 2.9m.

Is a super king too big for my bedroom?
It might be. We suggest a minimum room of 3m x 2.9m for a UK super king, which leaves space to walk around and open drawers. If you'd be squeezing past the footboard every morning, the UK king is the same 200cm length at 150cm wide, and we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for that size.
Is the Ruby 12500 super king good for couples with different sleep patterns?
Yes, and size is doing much of the work. With 90cm each for two people sharing, a partner who fidgets or gets up early is simply further away, and the 12,500 pocket springs respond individually rather than tipping you both towards the middle. The soft to medium feel is shared, though, so you'll both get the same cushioned surface.
Will the Harrison Spinks Ruby 12500 super king get up my stairs?
This is a traditional pocket sprung mattress, not one that arrives rolled, so a 180 x 200cm mattress has to turn every corner at full size. Measure your stairwell, landing turns and door swing before ordering. If access is tight, it's worth asking the retailer listed on this page about their delivery team's approach before you commit.
Is the super king worth it over the king for this mattress?
If you share with children or pets, or one of you is genuinely restless, the extra 30cm of width makes a real difference every night. The UK super king and the UK king are the same length, so it's purely a width decision. Compare the prices shown on this page, which update as retailers change them, and weigh the gap against how you actually sleep.
What bedding do I need for a super king Ruby 12500?
Standard UK super king sheets fit the 180 x 200cm footprint, and we'd suggest a 260 x 220cm duvet so the overhang covers both sleepers properly. The mattress is 29cm deep, so check your fitted sheets have enough depth in the corners. Budget a little extra, as super king bedding costs more than king sizes across most ranges.
