Layer Details
- Pillow top. A cloud-like pillow top with additional micro springs, which means a softer, cushioned surface sitting above the firm support below. It's sewn on rather than separate, so the comfort layer stays put.
- Natural fibres layer. Generous layers of British wool, naturally cooling flax and farm-grown hemp. These fibres wick moisture and regulate temperature, which should help if you tend to sleep warm.
- Pocket spring layers. 7,440 responsive springs in total, combining high-density micro, Posturfil and Cortec pocket springs. Each spring moves independently, so you get support where your body needs it and less motion transfer across the bed.

- Fits most UK bedrooms: At 135 x 190cm the UK double works where a UK king would dominate: allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m and you'll still have room to move.
- Independent support for two: The Tennyson's 7,440 pocket springs move individually, which means less disturbance when your partner turns over, useful on a shared 135cm width.
- Bedside tables on both sides: In most rooms that meet our suggested minimum, a UK double still allows a table each side, which a wider size often rules out.
- Cooler for two sharing: Two bodies raise the temperature under one duvet, and the wool, flax and hemp fillings wick moisture, so warm couples should sleep more comfortably.
- Easy to dress: Double sheets and duvets are stocked everywhere at every price, though check yours are deep enough for the 30cm build.
This size suits you if...
You're a couple who wants proper firm support in a bedroom that can't comfortably take a UK king, or a solo sleeper who likes space to stretch out, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner. It also suits a guest room that hosts visiting couples, since 135 x 190cm handles two sharers while leaving the room usable the rest of the year.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like to spread out, because 67.5cm each is workable rather than generous. If your room measures at least 2.7m x 2.9m, we'd recommend the UK king instead: it's 15cm wider and 10cm longer.

Is the Harrison Spinks Tennyson UK double big enough for a couple?
Yes, for most couples. The UK double gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing, and the Tennyson's 7,440 pocket springs mean you'll feel less of your partner's movement across that width. Restless sleepers or anyone tall may still prefer the UK king, which is 15cm wider and 10cm longer, if the room allows.
What size room do I need for the Tennyson in a UK double?
We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m, which most UK bedrooms manage comfortably. That allows walking space around the bed and, in many rooms, a bedside table on each side. If you're furnishing a second bedroom or a first flat, factor in the wardrobe and drawers before deciding the bed can go bigger.
Should I buy the Tennyson in a UK double or a UK king?
It usually comes down to your room. The UK double is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king, and for the UK king we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m. If your bedroom clears that with space left for furniture, the extra width is a real comfort gain for couples. If it doesn't, the UK double is the better fit.
Will a UK double Tennyson get up a narrow staircase?
It needs thought. This is a 30cm deep pocket sprung mattress with natural fillings, so it can't be squashed round corners the way a rolled foam mattress can. At 135 x 190cm it's more manageable than the larger sizes, but if you live in an older terrace with a turning staircase, measure the tight points before ordering.
Is the Tennyson UK double a good choice for a guest room?
Yes, with one caveat. The 135 x 190cm footprint suits visiting couples without swallowing the room, and the firm feel divides opinion less over a few nights than it might every night. It's a serious spend for occasional use, so it makes most sense if the room doubles as somewhere you sleep regularly yourself.
