Layer Details
- Cover. An in-house woven, natural and chemical-free cover made from breathable Belgian damask fabric. That breathability helps heat escape rather than build up at the surface.
- Top comfort layer. Layers of white wool and mohair, responsibly sourced from the sheep and Angora goats at the Harrison Spinks Yorkshire farm. These fillings give a soft, cushioned feel while wicking moisture away as you sleep.
- Viscose wool layer. A blend of viscose wool derived from the wood pulp of eucalyptus, beech and pine trees. It cradles you in comfort while enhancing ventilation throughout the mattress.
- Spring core. Five separate layers of springs featuring Cortec Pocket Springs and Micro HD springs, designed to react quickly to movements and provide targeted support. You feel this as support that adjusts to your shape rather than a single flat surface.
- Bottom comfort layer. More white wool and mohair from the same Yorkshire farm, mirroring the top layer. This adds a base of natural cushioning beneath the springs.

- Fits where space is tight: At 90cm wide, it leaves room for a desk, wardrobe and floor space in a child's bedroom, and we suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m.
- A gentle surface for lighter sleepers: The soft feel and wool and mohair fillings suit lighter bodies, which makes this size a sensible match for children, teens and smaller adults.
- Breathable for a growing sleeper: Wool, mohair and viscose fillings wick moisture and let heat escape, which matters for teenagers who sleep warm in smaller rooms.
- Easier delivery in single form: This mattress arrives flat, and the narrower UK single is the most manageable version to get around tight landings and loft stairs.
- Cheap, easy bedding: Standard single sheets and a 135 x 200cm duvet fit, and single bedding is the most widely stocked of any UK size.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for a child or teenager and want natural, chemical-free materials rather than foam, you sleep alone and prefer a soft mattress in a compact room, or you're furnishing a spare room that doubles as an office and need a bed that leaves the rest of the floor usable. It also suits a loft room where only a narrow footprint fits under the slope.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult who wants space to spread out, or the bed may occasionally sleep two. The UK single is 45cm narrower than the UK double at the same length, so we'd recommend the UK double instead; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.

How much floor space does a UK single Winchester 13750 need?
The mattress itself is 90 x 190cm, or 3ft x 6ft 3in. We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space so there's room to walk alongside the bed and open drawers or a wardrobe. That guidance is ours, based on comfortable everyday use, so treat it as a sensible minimum rather than a hard rule.
Is the Winchester 13750 in a UK single suitable for a child's bed?
In many ways yes: it's soft, breathable and free of chemical treatments, with wool and mohair fillings that suit lighter bodies. It's a serious spend for a child's room, but the traditional construction is built to last through the teenage years, which softens the maths on a bed they'll use for a decade.
Will the UK single Winchester 13750 fit a bunk or mid sleeper frame?
The width and length match standard UK single frames, but at 30cm deep it may sit too high for a bunk or mid sleeper. Safety guidance generally requires a good margin between the mattress top and the guard rail, so measure your frame's maximum mattress depth before buying. For a standard low frame or divan, depth isn't an issue.
Should I choose the UK single or the UK small double for a guest room?
The UK single is 30cm narrower than the UK small double, and the two are the same length. If guests usually come alone and the room is small, the single leaves more usable floor. If couples visit, the UK small double is the better call, and we suggest allowing at least 2.4m x 2.8m for it.
Is the single size of the Winchester 13750 easier to get upstairs?
Yes, relatively. This mattress ships flat rather than rolled in a box, which can make awkward staircases and loft conversions tricky, but the UK single's 90cm width is the most forgiving of the range on tight turns. Measure your narrowest doorway and stairwell against 90 x 190cm before ordering to be sure.
