- Damask cover. A finely woven, durable fabric that feels soft to the touch. It doesn't retain heat, which means it stays cooler against you through the night.
- Cotton. Breathable cotton fibres that wick away moisture. In practice that keeps you dry and cool rather than clammy.
- Solotex™. A filling engineered from recycled plastic, so it's an eco-friendlier choice. It's extremely durable and cuddles body contours for a slightly softer feel over the firm springs.
- Pocket Springs. 1,200 ReActivePro 6-turn pocket springs with tighter spring resistance. That means a more supportive surface that still adapts to your unique shape, weight and movement.
Layer details from mattressonline.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Room to sleep apart, together: With 75cm each for two people sharing, you can settle into your own space rather than negotiating the middle of a UK double.
- Less disturbance across the bed: The 1,200 ReActivePro pocket springs respond individually, so an early alarm on one side transmits less movement to a partner still asleep on the other.
- Length for taller sleepers: At 200cm, the UK king is 10cm longer than the UK double, which means feet stay on the mattress rather than hanging off the end.
- Firm support that holds at this width: Tighter spring resistance keeps the surface consistent edge to edge, useful when two sleepers of different weights share 150cm of mattress.
- Cooler for two: Two bodies raise the temperature under any duvet, so the breathable cotton and non-heat-retaining damask cover matter more in a shared UK king than a solo bed.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and the UK double has started to feel like a compromise, particularly if one of you gets up hours before the other and every movement currently travels. It also fits if either partner is approaching six foot and wants the extra 10cm of length, or if a dog has quietly become a permanent third occupant and personal space keeps shrinking.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom can't comfortably take our suggested minimum of 2.7m x 2.9m once wardrobes are in, a common squeeze in new build masters. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which needs at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

Is the Hypnos Alcester Ortho Extra UK king good for couples?
Yes, provided you both like a firm feel. The 150cm width gives you 75cm each for two people sharing, and the 1,200 pocket springs respond independently, so one restless sleeper disturbs the other less. Lightweight side sleepers may still find the surface presses on shoulders and hips, whatever the size.
Will the UK king Alcester Ortho Extra fit my bedroom?
The mattress itself is 150 x 200cm, or 5ft x 6ft 6in. For the room, we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m so you can open wardrobes and walk round both sides. New build master bedrooms often look bigger on the plan than they feel once furniture is in, so measure before you commit.
Is a UK king long enough for someone over six foot?
It helps considerably. At 200cm, the UK king is 10cm longer than the UK double, which is often the difference between feet on the mattress and feet in mid-air. For anyone taller still, the length is the same on the UK super king, so sizing up buys width rather than extra length.
Is the king size hard to rotate and flip?
It takes two of you. This mattress can be flipped and rotated for even wear, which many owners mention across reviews, but at 150 x 200cm it's an awkward shape to manoeuvre alone. Plan it as a shared job and clear space around the bed first.
Where can I buy the Hypnos Alcester Ortho Extra in a UK king?
Retailer availability changes, so the most reliable answer is the live table on this page, which is updated as retailers change their prices and stock. Compare the retailers listed here rather than relying on a snapshot, and check the UK king specifically, as availability can differ between sizes.
