Layer Details
- Damask cover. A finely woven, durable fabric that feels soft to the touch. It doesn't retain heat, which means it stays cooler against you through the night.
- Cotton. Breathable cotton fibres that wick away moisture. In practice that keeps you dry and cool rather than clammy.
- Solotex™. A filling engineered from recycled plastic, so it's an eco-friendlier choice. It's extremely durable and cuddles body contours for a slightly softer feel over the firm springs.
- Pocket Springs. 1,200 ReActivePro 6-turn pocket springs with tighter spring resistance. That means a more supportive surface that still adapts to your unique shape, weight and movement.
Layer details from mattressonline.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Distance beats any comfort layer: On a firmer mattress movement carries less to begin with, and at 90cm each for two people sharing, a fidgety partner is simply too far away to notice.
- Room for night-time visitors: If children pad through at 3am, or a large dog treats your bed as routine, the UK super king means everyone still gets a workable share.
- Firm support across the full width: The 1,200 ReActivePro pocket springs keep their tighter resistance edge to edge, so neither sleeper drifts into a soft middle on this wide a surface.
- Cool sleeping at scale: Two bodies under one duvet generate heat, and the breathable cotton fillings and damask cover help this size stay comfortable for couples.
- Flippable, which matters at this size: A mattress this large is a real spend, and being able to rotate and flip it for even wear helps protect that investment over the years.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want the most sleeping space a standard UK size offers, your partner is restless enough that separation matters more than any filling, or children and pets regularly join you and a UK king has started to feel crowded. Back and front sleepers who want firm support will get the most from this mattress at any size.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom is under our suggested 3m x 2.9m minimum, or a mattress at 6ft x 6ft 6in won't make it round your landing. The UK king is 30cm narrower and the same length, and we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for it.

How much space do two people get on the Hypnos Alcester Ortho Extra in a UK super king?
You get 90cm each for two people sharing, the most of any standard UK size. On a firm pocket spring mattress like this one, that width does more for undisturbed sleep than any comfort layer could, because a restless partner is simply further away.
What room size do I need for the Hypnos Alcester Ortho Extra super king?
We suggest at least 3m x 2.9m for a UK super king, and that is our guidance rather than the manufacturer's. Measure with wardrobes and door swing in mind, and if you're eyeing a loft conversion, check where the slope starts, as the roofline often decides which wall a bed this size can take.
Is the UK super king too big to get upstairs?
At 6ft x 6ft 6in it is the trickiest standard size to move, and as a pocket spring mattress it won't arrive rolled in a box. Measure your stairwell, any landing turns and the bedroom door before ordering, because a tight quarter-turn staircase catches out plenty of super king buyers.
Should I choose the UK king or UK super king for this mattress?
The UK super king is 30cm wider than the UK king; the two are the same length. If your partner moves a lot, or children and pets share the bed, that extra width is the difference between disturbed and undisturbed sleep. In a large master or period bedroom, a UK king can also look undersized against the room.
Where can I buy the Hypnos Alcester Ortho Extra in a UK super king?
