Layer Details
- Solotex™ comfort fibres. The top layer uses Solotex comfort fibres, recycled synthetic fibres that are breathable and durable. In practice this gives a soft initial feel that should resist flattening over time.
- Wool fillings. Two plush fleeces of natural wool sit beneath, layered on top of the cotton fibres. Wool regulates temperature naturally, which means it helps keep you warm in winter and cooler in summer.
- Cotton fillings. A deep layer of responsibly sourced cotton allows air to flow through the mattress. That airflow matters if you tend to sleep warm.
- ReActivePro™ 7-turn pocket springs. 1200 ReActivePro 7-turn pocket springs adapt to your unique shape for personalised, responsive support. Each spring moves independently, so your partner's movements are less likely to disturb you.

- Room to share, room to walk: At 135 x 190cm the UK double fits comfortably where a UK king would dominate, leaving space for wardrobes and drawers in an ordinary bedroom.
- 67.5cm each for couples: Two people sharing get 67.5cm each, which works well here because the 1200 pocket springs move independently and soften your partner's turning.
- A gentle feel at a sociable size: The medium soft surface suits side sleepers sharing a double, letting shoulders and hips settle in rather than perching on top.
- Natural fillings that breathe when two share: Two bodies raise the temperature under one duvet, and the wool and cotton layers let air move through, so a shared UK double stays cooler.
- Easy to dress: Standard double sheets and a 200 x 200cm duvet are stocked everywhere, at every price, which keeps furnishing this size simple.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed most nights and your bedroom sits close to the 2.6m x 2.8m minimum we suggest, so a UK king would crowd it. Or you sleep alone and want proper space to spread out, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner. It also makes sense for a guest room that regularly hosts visiting couples, where a gentle, unfussy feel matters more than maximum width.
Consider another size if...
You both want more personal space and your room comfortably exceeds 2.7m x 2.9m. We'd recommend the UK king instead: it's 15cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double, a real difference for two.

Is the Hypnos Banbury in a UK double big enough for a couple?
For most couples, yes. You get 67.5cm each for two people sharing, and the 1200 ReActivePro pocket springs respond to each of you separately, so one person shifting is less likely to wake the other. If either of you is broad shouldered or a restless sleeper, the extra width of a UK king is easier to live with.
What size room do I need for the UK double Hypnos Banbury?
We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That's our guidance, not the manufacturer's, and it assumes you want to open drawers and walk round the bed without shuffling sideways. If you'd like bedside tables on both sides, measure with those in place before you commit.
Should I get the Hypnos Banbury in a UK double or size up to a UK king?
The UK double is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king. If you share every night and the room allows it, the UK king gives each of you noticeably more space; we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for that size. In a smaller room, the UK double keeps the bed in proportion and still sleeps two comfortably.
Will a UK double Hypnos Banbury get up narrow stairs?
The mattress measures 135 x 190cm, or 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in, and as a 26cm pocket spring design it arrives full size rather than rolled, so it won't bend the way foam does. Measure any turning stairs or tight landings first, particularly in older terraces, and check the brand's own handling guidance before buying.
Is the UK double a good guest room size for this mattress?
It's a strong choice if visiting couples use the room, since a UK single or UK small double only really suits one adult. The medium soft feel is a slight gamble for guests who prefer a firm bed, but most side and back sleepers will find the wool and cotton layers gently comfortable for a few nights.
