Layer Details
- Cover. A soft viscose cover that's naturally breathable, which means the sleep surface feels a little fresher against your skin. It's the first line of temperature control before you reach the fillings.
- Wool. Layers of wool sit just beneath the cover, giving cushioned comfort with natural insulation. Wool regulates temperature in both directions, so it helps in warm summers as well as cold winters.
- Cotton and Polyester Blend. Two layers of a cotton and polyester blend increase airflow through the mattress. They also wick moisture away from your body, which matters if you tend to sleep warm.
- eOlus™ Fibres. These fibres are made from recycled materials and spun into a slightly firmer, cushioning layer. They add to the extra firm feel while giving the mattress a sustainability credential.
- Soft White Fibres. Soft synthetic fillings bring a cosier feel to balance the firmness beneath. They're durable and resilient, so the comfort layer should hold its shape over time.
- Pocket Springs. 1000 ReActivePro™ springs, each in its own fabric pocket, respond to your body individually and reduce partner disturbance. Three outer rows of firmer gauge springs increase edge stability, so you can use the full width of the bed.

- A shared bed that stays still: The 1000 ReActivePro pocket springs move independently, which means an early riser is less likely to wake the person still asleep beside them.
- Edges you can both use: Three outer rows of firmer gauge springs stiffen the sides, so neither of you feels perched when sleeping near the edge of a shared 135cm width.
- Fits where a king wouldn't: At 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in it leaves space for wardrobes and drawers in a typical UK bedroom, often with room for bedside tables on both sides.
- Two sleepers, less overheating: Sharing a bed raises the temperature under the duvet, and the wool and cotton blend fillings breathe naturally, which helps on warm nights.
- Bedding without the hunt: Double sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet are stocked everywhere at every price, useful if you're furnishing a room from scratch.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want a firm, stable surface in a room where a UK king would crowd the furniture, or you sleep alone and like space to spread out on a solid base. It also suits a guest room that hosts visiting couples, provided your guests are back or front sleepers who get on with an extra firm feel.
Consider another size if...
You both sleep on your sides or one of you is broad shouldered, because 67.5cm each on an extra firm surface can feel tight. If your room allows at least 2.7m x 2.9m, we'd recommend the UK king instead.

Is the Hypnos Honley UK double big enough for a couple?
For most couples, yes. The UK double gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing, and the pocket springs respond to each sleeper individually, so you won't roll together. That said, extra firm surfaces don't let you sink in and share space as forgivingly as softer beds, so restless or larger couples may prefer the UK king, which is 15cm wider and 10cm longer.
What room size do I need for the Honley in a UK double?
Allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That leaves walking space on both sides and usually room for bedside tables too. In a smaller second bedroom or first flat where a wardrobe and drawers also need to fit, measure carefully first: the UK small double is 15cm narrower if space is genuinely tight.
Will a UK double Honley get up the stairs in an older house?
It should, but plan the route. This is a 30cm deep single-sided pocket spring mattress, so it can't be folded or squashed around a tight turn the way a rolled foam mattress can. Measure the stairwell, any turns and the landing against 135 x 190cm before delivery day, especially in older terraces or narrow new build stairways.
Can one person sit on the edge without tipping the other side?
The edge support helps here. Three outer rows of firmer gauge springs run around the perimeter, so sitting on the side to dress, or a partner getting in later, doesn't create a slope across the 135cm width. Combined with the individually pocketed springs, movement on one half transfers noticeably less to the other than it would on an open coil bed.
Should we choose the Honley in a UK double or a UK king?
It comes down to your room. The UK double is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king, and suits rooms from 2.6m x 2.8m. If you can allow at least 2.7m x 2.9m and either of you is tall or a light sleeper, the UK king is the more comfortable long-term choice for sharing an extra firm mattress.
