- Pillowtop. A tufted pillowtop filled with layers of British wool sits on top, which means a slightly cushioned surface even on this firmer version. Tufting holds the fillings in place so they're less likely to shift or settle unevenly over time.
- Silk, wool, cashmere and alpaca layer. Beneath the pillowtop is a blend of silk, wool, cashmere and alpaca. These natural fibres breathe and wick moisture, so the mattress stays comfortable and temperature-neutral through the night.
- Sustainable fresh fibres. British wool is layered here with sustainable fresh fibres. This adds depth to the comfort layers while keeping the fillings natural rather than synthetic.
- Pocket spring system. The base holds 2000 zoned pocket springs with an additional 1000 mini springs. Zoning means firmer support where your body is heaviest, typically around the hips, while the mini springs add a finer layer of responsiveness closer to the surface.

- A footprint most bedrooms can take: At 135 x 190cm (4ft 6in x 6ft 3in), it fits where the UK king would crowd the walls; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m.
- Room for bedside tables on both sides: In a typical double bedroom this size usually leaves space for a table each side, which matters more than a few extra centimetres of mattress.
- 67.5cm each for two people sharing: That's the standard shared allowance, and the firmer zoned springs mean less roll-together than a softer mattress at the same width.
- Breathable fillings for two warm bodies: Two sleepers generate more heat than one, and the wool, silk, cashmere and alpaca layers wick moisture rather than trapping it.
- Easy and cheap to dress: Double sheets and 200 x 200cm duvets are stocked everywhere at every price, useful if you're kitting out a whole home at once.
- A sensible guest room choice: A double comfortably sleeps visiting couples, and the firm feel suits occasional use where you can't tailor the mattress to one person.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and your room sits around the 2.6m x 2.8m minimum we suggest, so the UK king would leave the space feeling cramped. It also suits you if you're furnishing a guest room that needs to sleep visiting couples, or you sleep alone and want space to spread out, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like space and your room comfortably clears 2.7m x 2.9m. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double, and we'd recommend it instead for everyday sharing.

Is the Milldale 3000 in a UK double big enough for a couple?
Yes, with the usual caveat. A UK double gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing, which is the traditional standard and works for most couples. The firmer zoned support helps here, as you're less likely to roll towards each other than on a soft mattress. If either of you is broad-shouldered or a restless sleeper, the UK king is 15cm wider.
What room size do I need for the Milldale 3000 double?
We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. The mattress itself is 135 x 190cm, and the extra allowance covers walking space, opening drawers and, ideally, a bedside table on each side. If your room is much larger than that, it may be worth pricing the UK king before you commit.
Is a double Milldale 3000 easy to get upstairs?
Easier than the larger sizes, but plan ahead. At 32.5cm deep with a tufted pillowtop and a 3000-spring build, this is a substantial mattress that won't fold or squash round corners. Measure any turning stairs in an older terrace or a tight new build landing before delivery day, and check the double's 135cm width against your narrowest point.
Should I get the Milldale 3000 in a double or a king?
It comes down to your room. The UK double suits bedrooms near our suggested 2.6m x 2.8m minimum and leaves space for furniture. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer, better for couples who want more personal space, but it needs at least 2.7m x 2.9m. Measure first, then compare the retailers listed on this page.
Is the double Milldale 3000 good for a guest room?
It's a sensible fit. A UK double sleeps visiting couples where a UK single can't, and the firm feel is a safe middle ground when you don't know who'll be sleeping on it. The natural fillings breathe well, and Allergy UK approval is reassuring for guests with dust mite sensitivities. Standard double bedding keeps dressing it cheap.
