Layer Details
- Cover. A breathable stretch fabric cover. It flexes with the layers beneath, so you feel the foam's contouring rather than a taut surface.
- Foam. High-performance ErgoSense foam relieves pressure and promotes healthy blood circulation, which means less tossing and turning to relieve numb spots. It's the layer that gives the mattress its medium, cushioned feel.
- Springs. Individually pocketed springs, 1,000 of them in the king size, move independently rather than as one unit. That means better spinal alignment and less disturbance when a partner shifts in the night.
- Support. DynamicEdge® active side support firms up the perimeter to maximise the usable sleep surface and prevent roll-off. Useful if you sit on the edge to dress, or share a smaller bed.

- Space to sprawl on your own: At 30cm wider than a UK single, you can sleep on a diagonal or with your arms out without a hand dangling over the side.
- Fits rooms a double would crowd: We suggest a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m, which means many box rooms and loft conversions can take it without losing the walkway beside the bed.
- Edges you can actually use: DynamicEdge side support firms up the perimeter, which matters more on a 120cm bed because you end up sleeping and sitting much closer to the edge.
- Fewer wake-ups when a guest shares: The pocket springs move independently, so a partner staying for the weekend is less likely to disturb you each time they turn over.
- A feel a growing teenager won't outgrow: The medium firmness suits a wide range of sleepers, which helps if a teenager moving up from a single is still settling into a sleeping position.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a single, or your bedroom can't spare the floor space a standard double would take, and a partner or guest only shares with you now and then.
Consider another size if...
You and a partner will sleep on it every night rather than occasionally. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which gives 67.5cm each; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

Is the Sleep Story Ergo Deluxe small double big enough for one adult?
For most solo sleepers, yes. The UK small double is 120 x 190cm, 30cm wider than the UK single, which gives you room to roll over and spread out without hitting the edge. The firmer perimeter from the DynamicEdge support also means the outer strip of the mattress feels usable rather than soft and sloping.
Will a UK small double Ergo Deluxe fit in a box room?
Often it will. We suggest a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m for the UK small double. Measure with the door open and any wardrobe doors swung out too, because in a tight room the width is usually what decides whether you can still get past the bed comfortably.
Is the Ergo Deluxe small double comfortable for a couple on the odd night?
For occasional stays, it works well. The independently moving pocket springs cut down on disturbance when one of you shifts, and the firmer edges let you both use the full width. For a couple sharing every night, the UK small double feels a little snug, and the UK double would be the more comfortable choice.
Should I get the Ergo Deluxe in a small double or a double?
The UK small double is 15cm narrower than the UK double, and both are the same length. If you sleep alone or your room is tight, the UK small double makes more sense. If two of you share nightly, the UK double gives 67.5cm each, and we suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.
Is the Sleep Story Ergo Deluxe small double long enough if you're tall?
The UK small double is 190cm long, the same as the UK double. If your feet already reach the end of a standard bed, the UK king is 10cm longer, although it is also 30cm wider, and we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for a UK king.
