- Cover. A Belgian Damask viscose sleep surface that feels silky and soft to the touch. It's highly breathable, which helps keep the sleeping environment fresher through the night.
- Comfort fillings. A blend of sustainably sourced British wool, cotton, cashmere and silk. These natural fibres breathe and wick moisture, which means you're less likely to overheat.
- Support system. 5,000 individually pocketed springs sit beneath the fillings. Each spring moves on its own, so the mattress contours to your body and responds where you need support.

- Leaves room for everything else: At 3ft x 6ft 3in, the UK single leaves space for a desk and wardrobe in a child's or teenager's bedroom.
- Firm support for growing teens: The firm pocket sprung base holds a heavier teenager or adult back sleeper steadily, which means less sagging where the body rests heaviest.
- Cooler for one warm sleeper: The wool, cotton, cashmere and silk fillings wick moisture, which helps if a teenager tends to wake up hot and clammy.
- Fits a narrow corner: A 90cm width can sit along a wall or tuck beneath the sloping ceiling of a loft conversion, where a wider bed would crowd the room.
- Suits a working spare room: A spare room that doubles as a study can keep its desk, with a proper firm bed ready for visitors.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and want a firm, supportive feel, you're furnishing a teenager's room that also needs a desk and storage, or your spare room is also your office and you want a proper guest bed that leaves space to work.
Consider another size if...
You share your bed, or you're a lightweight side sleeper wanting softness. For two sleepers, we'd recommend the UK double instead: it gives 67.5cm each, and we suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

Will the Ortho Tranquility 5000 UK single fit a bunk bed or mid sleeper?
The width and length match a standard UK single frame, but the mattress is 32cm deep, which is deep for a raised bed. Check your frame's maximum recommended mattress depth before buying, and make sure the guard rail still sits comfortably above the sleep surface once the mattress is in place.
Is the Ortho Tranquility 5000 UK single too firm for a child?
It may be. Lighter sleepers press into a mattress less, so a firm pocket sprung bed can feel unyielding at the shoulder and hip, especially for side sleepers. An older, heavier teenager who sleeps on their back or front is more likely to find the firm feel comfortable.
How much space do I need for a UK single Ortho Tranquility 5000?
We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space. That leaves room to walk round the bed and open drawers or a wardrobe. If you're fitting two single beds for siblings or guests, measure for a walkway between them as well.
Is the Ortho Tranquility 5000 single long enough for a tall adult?
The UK single is 190cm long, the same length as the UK double. If you're tall and your feet reach the end, the UK king is 10cm longer, although it is also 60cm wider, so it needs a much larger room: we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m.
Should I buy the UK single or UK double for a guest room?
Choose the UK single if your guests usually stay alone or the room also works as a study, because it's 45cm narrower than the UK double. If couples stay over, the UK double gives 67.5cm each, and we suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.
