Layer Details
- Cover. A Smooth-Tech™ fabric sleep surface. It gives you a smooth, comfortable top layer to lie on.
- Fillings. English cotton, Hampshire wool, silk and cashmere. These natural fibres breathe and wick moisture, which means better temperature regulation through the night.
- Spring system. 1000 pocket springs and 1000 micro springs in the king size, with 7 zones that mirror your body shape. Each spring moves independently, so you get targeted support and less disturbance from a partner's movement.
- Support. A double steel-framed system reinforces the mattress edges. This maximises the usable sleep area, so you can spread out to the very edge without it giving way.

- Room to spread out alone: At 30cm wider than the UK single, the UK small double lets you sleep diagonally or starfish, and the firm feel keeps you supported wherever you end up.
- Edges you can use: The double steel-framed edge support means you can lie right up to the side, which matters on a narrower bed where every centimetre of width counts.
- Kinder to a tight floor plan: We suggest a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m, so the UK small double can fit a box room or loft conversion where a bigger frame would block drawers or doorways.
- Same length as a single: The UK small double keeps the 190cm length of the UK single, so a teenager moving up gains width without the bed pushing further into the room.
- Cooler for close quarters: The wool, cotton, silk and cashmere fillings help moisture escape, which helps when two people share the UK small double and body heat builds up faster.
- Fine for occasional guests: Pocket springs move independently, so a couple staying for a weekend feels a little less of each other's tossing and turning on the UK small double.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone, like a firm surface and want more width than a single gives you, or your spare room or loft conversion can't take a larger frame and you'd like it to host a visiting couple for the odd weekend.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night or are a lightweight side sleeper. Couples would be better on the UK king, which gives 75cm each; we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for the UK king.

Is the Village Inspire 2850 UK small double a good alternative to a double?
Furniture Village doesn't sell this mattress in a UK double, so the UK small double is the nearest option for a room that can't take a UK king. The UK small double is 15cm narrower than a standard UK double but the same length. For one sleeper you're unlikely to miss the width. A couple sharing nightly may feel it.
What size room do I need for a Village Inspire 2850 small double?
We suggest at least 2.4m x 2.8m for the UK small double. That leaves space to walk round the bed and open a wardrobe. If your room is smaller, the UK single needs at least 2.1m x 2.8m and is the same length, so you'd only give up width.
Is the Village Inspire 2850 UK small double long enough for a tall person?
The UK small double is 190cm long, or 6ft 3in, the same as the UK single. If you're tall enough for your feet to reach the end, the UK king is 10cm longer, although it is also 30cm wider and needs a bigger room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m.
Should a teenager move from a single to the Village Inspire 2850 small double?
For a growing teenager, the UK small double adds 30cm of width while keeping the same length as the UK single, so the bed takes a little more floor without reaching further across the room. The firm feel suits back and front sleepers well, although a lighter teen who sleeps on their side may find it slightly unyielding.
UK small double or UK king in the Village Inspire 2850 firm?
Choose the UK small double if you sleep alone or host couples only occasionally, and your room is closer to 2.4m x 2.8m. Choose the UK king if two of you share every night: it is 30cm wider, 10cm longer and gives 75cm each, but needs at least 2.7m x 2.9m.
