- Ticking. The mattress is covered in soft, finest quality ticking. It is the surface you will actually feel through your sheet, so the softness here matters.
- Hand tufting and side-stitching. Hand tufting with felt washers anchors the fillings so they stay evenly distributed rather than migrating. Two rows of hand side-stitching strengthen the edge, giving you usable sleeping space right to the border.
- Springs and pockets. The 5 foot size holds 1,326 vanadium steel springs, each with 6 coils and hand-nested in its own calico pocket, sitting beneath a wool protector pad. Individual pockets mean each spring moves on its own, which reduces the ripple you feel when a partner turns over.
- Borders. The borders are upholstered in wool and fitted with air vents and handles. The vents let the mattress breathe while the handles make turning and repositioning it a little easier.

- Fits standard single frames: At 90 x 190cm, or 3ft x 6ft 3in, it matches the standard UK single, so a divan, bunk or cabin frame built for that size should take it.
- Room left for the rest of life: We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m, which means space for a desk, wardrobe or toy storage in a child's room or a box room.
- Firm support for growing bodies: The Firm tension gives a teenager solid, even support, although a lightweight child who sleeps on their side may find it a little unyielding at the shoulder.
- Cooler sleep in a small room: Wool borders with air vents let the mattress breathe, which helps in a warm loft conversion or a small bedroom where the air feels close at night.
- Usable width right to the edge: Two rows of hand side-stitching firm up the border, so a solo sleeper can use the full width of a narrow bed without feeling near the drop.
- A proper bed for guests: Two UK singles in a spare room let friends or siblings stay without sharing, each on independently responding springs rather than a thin guest mattress.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and want firm, traditional support in a compact bedroom, you are furnishing a spare room with two separate beds for guests, or you are buying for a teenager whose room has to fit a desk and storage as well as a bed.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed with a partner, or your child is very light and sleeps on their side. For sharing, we'd recommend the UK double instead, which gives 67.5cm each; we suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

Is the Vispring Realm single a good choice for a child?
It can be, with one flaw to weigh up. The Firm tension suits heavier children and teenagers well, but a small, light side sleeper may not sink in enough at the shoulder and hip. If your child is older or sleeps on their back, a UK single gives them firm support on a footprint that suits a child's room.
Will a Vispring Realm UK single fit a bunk bed or mid sleeper?
The width and length, 90 x 190cm, match standard UK single frames. Raised frames also set a maximum mattress depth so the safety rail stays high enough, so check the depth on Vispring's own guidance against your frame's limit before buying. A traditional handmade mattress can be deeper than the slim options many bunk makers expect.
How much bedroom space do I need for a Vispring Realm single?
We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m. That leaves room to walk around the bed and open a wardrobe, which matters in a box room or a spare room that doubles as a study. For two singles side by side, measure for both beds plus a walkway between them.
Are two Vispring Realm singles better than a double for a guest room?
If your guests are often friends, siblings or a parent and grown child, two UK singles mean nobody shares a mattress. Each sleeper gets the full 90cm width, with springs that respond on their own. For couples who visit more often, a UK double suits better, and we suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.
Should one adult buy the Vispring Realm in a single or a double?
A UK single suits a solo adult in a small room or first flat. If you sprawl, or have the floor space, the UK double is 45cm wider at the same length, which gives you room to turn without meeting the edge. We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double.
