- Comfort zones. The surface is divided into comfort zones, which means different areas of the mattress respond a little differently to where your body needs give and where it needs support. It's a simple way of tailoring a foam mattress without adding depth.
- Standard foam. A core of polyurethane foam at 33 kg/m3 provides the firm support the mattress is built around. That density figure matters: it suggests the foam should resist softening and dipping better than lighter budget foams.
- Memory foam. A layer of memory foam softens the firm core slightly, contouring to your shoulders and hips as they warm it. You'll feel a gentle cradle rather than a deep sink.

- The classic shared width: At 135 x 190cm you get 67.5cm each for two people sharing, enough for most couples without the bed dominating the room.
- Fits typical UK bedrooms: We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m, which most doubles rooms in older terraces and new builds can manage with bedside tables on both sides.
- Easy to manoeuvre: A 16 cm foam mattress in a double is far lighter than a hybrid this size, so tight landings and turning staircases are much less of a battle.
- Firm support across the width: The 33 kg/m3 foam core keeps its shape edge to edge, so two sleepers shouldn't roll towards the middle over time.
- Cheap to dress: Standard double sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet are stocked everywhere, useful if you're kitting out a guest room or first home on a budget.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want the traditional couples' size in a room where a UK king would feel cramped, you're furnishing a first flat or a whole home and need a sensible firm mattress that doesn't swallow the budget, or you're setting up a guest room that visiting couples will use a few weekends a year.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like space and your room measures at least 2.7m x 2.9m. The UK king would suit you better: it's 15cm wider and 10cm longer, giving 75cm each for two sharing.

Is the Ikea Abygda double big enough for two adults?
For most couples, yes. The UK double gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing, and the firm 33 kg/m3 foam core means neither of you should sink towards the other. Larger-framed couples, or anyone who sprawls, may prefer the UK king, which gives 75cm each and is 10cm longer too.
What room size do I need for the Abygda in a UK double?
We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That leaves space to walk round the bed and fit bedside tables on both sides. If your room comfortably exceeds 2.7m x 2.9m, a UK king becomes a realistic option.
Is the Abygda double easy to get upstairs?
Easier than most doubles. At 16 cm deep and made entirely of foam, it's lighter and more flexible than a sprung mattress of the same size, which helps on the turning stairs of older terraces and the tight landings common in new builds. Two people can carry it comfortably.
What bedding fits the Abygda in a double?
Standard UK double sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet. Because the mattress is a slim 16 cm, ordinary fitted sheets go on easily with room to spare; you won't need the deep-pocket versions that thicker hybrids often demand.
Should I buy the Abygda in a double or a king?
The UK double suits most shared bedrooms and costs less to dress. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer, worth it if either of you is tall or you both like room to spread, but it needs a room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m against 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double.
