Gel foam comfort layer
A breathable gel foam layer that draws heat away from your body. In practice, this means a cooler sleeping surface than standard foam.
800 pocket spring support system
800 responsive pocket springs that move independently, giving targeted support where you need it. This also helps limit motion transfer if you share the bed.
Layer details from arthursleep.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Real space for one: The UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, which means a solo adult can spread out without needing a bigger room.
- Fits tight rooms: It's 15cm narrower than the UK double, and in a box room or studio that margin can decide whether the door still opens fully.
- Cooler at this width: The gel foam comfort layer draws heat away, welcome for a solo sleeper who tends to run warm and finally has room to sprawl.
- Handles the occasional guest: 800 pocket springs move independently, so when a visiting couple shares this size for a weekend, one person turning over disturbs the other less.
- Standard 4ft sizing: The small double is a common UK size, so frames and small double fitted sheets are easy to find.
This size suits you if...
You're a solo adult who has outgrown a single and wants room to spread out, your bedroom is compact and a standard double would leave no walking space, or you're furnishing a guest room or holiday let where couples stay occasionally rather than nightly. At 120 x 190cm it also suits a teenager's room where floor space still matters. Allow at least 2.4m x 2.8m of room.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, as 120cm is snug for two adults long term. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which is 15cm wider and the same length; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.

Is a small double Arthur Sleep Cool Pocket big enough for a couple?
For occasional nights, yes. The 800 pocket springs limit motion transfer, so a visiting couple can share it comfortably for a weekend. For every night, 120cm of width is tight for two adults, and we'd suggest the UK double, which is 15cm wider and the same length.
What room size do I need for the small double Arthur Sleep Cool Pocket?
We suggest at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That leaves enough space to walk round the bed and open drawers or a door. If your room is smaller than that, a UK single of this mattress may be the better fit; we suggest at least 2.1m x 2.8m for the UK single.
Is the Arthur Sleep Cool Pocket small double good for a teenager?
It's a sensible step up from a single. The UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single but the same length, so a growing teenager gains width without the room losing much floor space. The medium firm feel suits most sleepers, though lightweight side sleepers may find it slightly firm.
What bedding fits the small double size?
You'll need small double, or 4ft, fitted sheets, which are widely stocked in the UK. A standard double duvet works well on top and gives a little overhang on each side. Check the fitted sheet depth suits a 25cm mattress before you buy.
Where can I buy the Arthur Sleep Cool Pocket in a small double?
Arthur Sleep is a house brand of Mattressman Ltd, sold through its own site, so availability is narrower than big-name brands. Compare the retailers listed on this page; the prices shown here are updated as retailers change them, so they're the ones to trust rather than a cached search result.
