Layer Details
Knitted cover
A soft knitted cover with breathability, which means heat can escape rather than building up at the surface. It's a simple touch but a welcome one on a memory foam mattress.
6cm memory foam
This layer adapts to the contours of your body for soothing pressure relief. In practice, that means a gentle cradling feel around your hips and shoulders as you settle in.
14cm Reflex foam core
A supportive core that creates the medium to firm feel. This is what keeps your spine aligned and stops you sinking too far into the mattress.

- The classic shared size: At 135 x 190cm, that's 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in, the UK double is the long standing standard for two people sharing.
- Fits most UK bedrooms: We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m, which means bedside tables on both sides remain possible in a typical master or second bedroom.
- 67.5cm each for couples: Two people sharing get 67.5cm each, and the memory foam's contouring means you feel cradled in your own space rather than rolling together.
- Budget-friendly for furnishing a home: If you're kitting out several rooms at once, a simple 20cm memory foam double keeps costs down without giving up proper support.
- Easy to dress: Standard double sheets and a 200 x 200cm duvet are stocked everywhere at every price, so bedding stays as affordable as the mattress.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want the traditional couples' size that still leaves room for wardrobes and drawers, or you sleep alone and want space to spread out, perhaps with a dog or cat claiming a corner. It also makes sense if you're furnishing a guest room for visiting couples on a tight budget, since the medium firm feel suits most back and front sleepers.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like room to stretch, or one of you is a restless sleeper. The UK king is 15cm wider and 10cm longer, and we'd recommend it if your room allows at least 2.7m x 2.9m.

Is the Bodyshape Classic in a UK double big enough for a couple?
For most couples, yes. Two people sharing get 67.5cm each, and the 6cm memory foam layer contours around each sleeper, so you're less aware of a partner settling in beside you. If either of you sleeps starfish-style or shares with children in the morning, the extra 15cm of width on the UK king is worth considering.
What room size do I need for a double Bodyshape Classic?
We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That allows the 135 x 190cm mattress plus space to walk around it and open drawers. In a second bedroom or first flat that also needs a wardrobe, the UK double usually fits where a UK king would dominate.
Can I still fit bedside tables with a UK double?
In most UK bedrooms, yes. The mattress is 135cm wide, so in a room meeting our suggested 2.6m x 2.8m minimum you'll typically have space for a slim table on each side. Measure the wall the bed will sit against before buying; it's the width, rather than the 190cm length, that decides this.
Should I buy the Bodyshape Classic in a UK double or a UK small double?
The UK double is 15cm wider than the UK small double and the two are the same length. For couples, that width matters on a medium firm memory foam mattress, since neither of you wants to sleep on the edge. The UK small double suits a solo sleeper in a compact room; we suggest at least 2.4m x 2.8m for it.
Is a double Bodyshape Classic a good choice for a guest room?
It's a strong fit. The UK double accommodates visiting couples, the medium firm feel suits the widest range of sleepers, which matters when you can't predict who's staying, and the price sits at the budget end of the market. The hypoallergenic foam is also a sensible default for guests whose sensitivities you don't know.
