- Pillow top. A luxuriously plump pillow top sits on the surface, which means a softer, more cushioned first feel before you reach the supportive layers beneath.
- Damask fabric. The mattress is wrapped in soft-touch damask fabric. It gives the sleeping surface a smooth, gentle finish against bedding.
- Silk and mohair blend. A silk and mohair blend brings sumptuous softness and helps regulate temperature. In practice that means the mattress should feel less clammy if you run warm at night.
- Platinum 3D polyester. This Platinum 3D polyester layer is fully recyclable at the end of its life, a small but genuine environmental plus for a mattress in this bracket.
- Pocket springs. Individually wrapped pocket springs distribute body weight evenly for head-to-toe support. Because each spring moves independently, you should feel less disturbance when a partner shifts position.

- Real width for one: At 120cm across, the UK small double lets a solo sleeper stretch out over the pillow top rather than sleeping in a narrow strip.
- Fits compact bedrooms: Being 15cm narrower than a UK double, this size squeezes a deep, natural-filled mattress into box rooms and loft conversions with sloping ceilings.
- 10,000 springs at every point: The individually wrapped pocket springs support you evenly wherever you drift across the extra width, so spreading out never means losing support.
- Cooler solo sleeping: The silk and mohair blend regulates temperature, and with the bed to yourself there is no second body adding warmth on humid nights.
- Handles the occasional guest: Two people can share for a weekend stay, and the pocket springs reduce disturbance when one of you turns over.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a UK single but your room cannot spare the floor space a UK double demands, or you're furnishing a guest room where couples stay occasionally rather than nightly. It also suits a teenager ready for an adult-sized bed in a bedroom that still needs a desk and wardrobe. Allow at least 2.4m x 2.8m of floor space.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night and want room to sleep comfortably as a couple long term. The UK small double is 15cm narrower than the UK double, so we'd recommend the UK double instead, allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

How big is the Feather & Black Boulton small double?
The UK small double Boulton measures 120 x 190cm, or 4ft x 6ft 3in. It is 30cm deep, so check that your fitted sheets are made for deep mattresses. Small double (4ft) fitted sheets are the right size, and a standard double duvet works well on top.
Is the Boulton small double big enough for a couple?
For occasional nights, yes. The 10,000 pocket springs move independently, so you'll feel little disturbance when the other person shifts. For every night, 120cm is a squeeze for two adults: you'd each have less personal space than on a single. Couples sharing full time should look at the UK double or UK king.
Will the small double Boulton fit in a box room?
We suggest a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m, which leaves space to walk around the bed and open the door. That is where this size makes sense: the UK double needs at least 2.6m x 2.8m, and in a box room or studio those 15cm often decide whether the layout works at all.
Should I get the Boulton in a single or a small double?
If the room can take it, the UK small double gives you 30cm more width than the UK single at the same length, which changes how freely you can move at night. The UK single needs a room of at least 2.1m x 2.8m, so it remains the better fit where floor space is genuinely tight.
