- Made for the average UK bedroom: At 135 x 190cm, the UK double fits comfortably where a UK king would crowd the room; we suggest a minimum of 2.6m x 2.8m.
- Room for bedside tables on both sides: In a typical bedroom this footprint usually leaves space for a table each side, which a wider size often sacrifices.
- Firm support that shares well: Pocket springs move independently, so a partner turning over on their half disturbs you less than a firm surface might suggest.
- 67.5cm each for two sharing: That is the classic couples' allowance: enough for two settled sleepers, though restless pairs may want to consider the UK king.
- Easy to dress and move: Double bedding is stocked everywhere at every price, and this size copes better with turning stairs in older terraces than a UK king would.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and your room sits around the typical UK bedroom size, you sleep on your back or front and want a firm surface for two, or you sleep alone and like space to spread out without giving the mattress the whole room. It also suits a guest room that regularly hosts visiting couples.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both toss and turn, or one of you is broad shouldered, and 67.5cm each feels tight. If your room allows at least 2.7m x 2.9m, we'd recommend the UK king instead, which is 15cm wider and 10cm longer.

Is the UK double Palladium 16500 big enough for a couple?
For most couples, yes. At 135 x 190cm you each get 67.5cm of width, the long standing standard for two sharing. The pocket spring construction helps here, since each spring compresses independently and a partner shifting position on a firm mattress transfers less movement than you might expect. Restless or broad shouldered pairs may prefer the UK king.
What room size do I need for a double Harrison Spinks Palladium 16500?
We suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That guidance is ours, not the manufacturer's. In a room that size the UK double usually leaves space for a wardrobe, drawers and bedside tables on both sides, which is why it remains the default choice for typical British bedrooms.
Should I buy the Palladium 16500 in a UK double or a UK king?
It comes down to your room and how you sleep. The UK double is 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than the UK king, so it suits rooms where a UK king would dominate. If you both move a lot at night and your room allows at least 2.7m x 2.9m, the extra width of the UK king is usually the better buy.
Will a firm double mattress work for a solo sleeper?
Comfortably, if you sleep on your back or front. A UK double gives one person generous room to spread out, and plenty of space even if a dog or cat claims a corner of the bed. Lightweight side sleepers are the exception: the Firmer Feel tension may feel a little unyielding at the shoulder regardless of size.
What bedding fits the Palladium 16500 in a double?
Standard UK double sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet. This is one of the quiet advantages of the size: double bedding is stocked everywhere, at every price point, so dressing the bed costs less and takes less hunting than it would for a UK super king.
