- Real stretching room for one: At 120cm across, the UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, which means a solo sleeper can change position freely on this firm surface.
- Fits compact double bedrooms: It's 15cm narrower than the UK double, which can be the difference between a door that clears the bed frame and one that doesn't.
- Firm support without a footprint to match: You get the Palladium 16500's stable, firm pocket spring feel in a bed that suits box rooms and studio flats.
- Pocket springs for shared nights: When guests or a partner do share occasionally, the independent springs limit movement transferring across the mattress.
- Standard UK sizing: The 4ft small double is a recognised UK size, so frames and fitted sheets are straightforward to find.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone, prefer a firm bed for your back or front sleeping position, and have outgrown the UK single without gaining a bigger room, or you're furnishing a loft conversion, studio or small second bedroom where a standard double would leave no walking space. It also suits a guest room where couples stay occasionally rather than nightly.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, since 120cm is snug for two adults full time. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which is 15cm wider and the same length; allow at least 2.6m x 2.8m for it.

How big is the Palladium 16500 in a small double?
The UK small double measures 120 x 190cm, which is 4ft x 6ft 3in. That's 30cm wider than the UK single and the same length, so you gain width for spreading out without needing a longer room. We suggest a floor space of at least 2.4m x 2.8m to leave room to move around the bed.
Will a small double Palladium 16500 fit in a box room?
Often, yes, and that's the main reason to pick this size. It's 15cm narrower than the UK double, which in a box room or studio can decide whether the door still opens fully and whether you can walk down one side of the bed. Measure your room against our suggested minimum of 2.4m x 2.8m before ordering.
Is the small double Palladium 16500 suitable for couples?
For occasional nights, yes. The pocket springs move independently, so two people sharing won't disturb each other much, and the firm tension keeps the surface stable. For every night as a couple, 120cm of width is tight; the UK king is 30cm wider and 10cm longer, and we'd suggest that if the room allows at least 2.7m x 2.9m.
Should I choose the small double or the single for a teenager?
If the room can spare the width, the UK small double is a sensible step up: it's 30cm wider than the UK single and exactly the same length, so a growing teenager gains sprawling room without the bed reaching further down the wall. The firm feel suits back and front sleepers, though lighter side sleepers may find it a little unyielding.
What room size do I need for this mattress in a small double?
We suggest at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That allows space to open the door, get in on at least one side and dress comfortably. It's our own guidance rather than the manufacturer's, and it's a fair bit less than the 2.6m x 2.8m we suggest for the UK double, which is why this size suits compact bedrooms.
