- Cover. A wool-blend cover woven in-house, which is fire-retardant without chemical treatments. That means fire safety comes from the wool itself rather than added sprays.
- Fillings. Naturally cooling and moisture-wicking fillings, including responsibly sourced and fully traceable British wool, hemp and flax grown on the Harrison Spinks farm. These help regulate temperature through the night.
- Micro springs. A layer of 2,500 high-density micro springs sits above the main support unit. These give closer-contouring pressure relief and added comfort, doing a similar job to a comfort layer in a foam mattress.
- Pocket spring system. The award-winning Advanced Cortec Quad pocket spring system, with 3,250 springs in the king size. Each spring moves independently, which means less motion transfer and support that follows your shape.

- Fits compact rooms: At 90cm wide it needs just 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space by our guidance, which leaves room for a desk, wardrobe or toy storage.
- Natural fillings for warm sleepers: The wool, hemp and flax fillings wick moisture and regulate temperature, which matters in small box rooms and lofts that heat up quickly.
- Support that suits growing sleepers: Pocket springs and a layer of 2,500 micro springs give responsive, progressive support, a sensible choice for a teenager who'll use this mattress for years.
- A guest bed that feels generous: Most spare-room singles are budget buys; this one gives visitors the same construction as the larger sizes, so nobody wakes up regretting the night.
- Chemical-free fire safety: The wool-blend cover is fire-retardant without chemical treatments, a reassuring detail when the mattress is going in a child's bedroom.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for one sleeper and want natural materials over foam: a child or teen you'd rather set up with something durable, a single adult in a compact room or first flat, or a spare room you want guests to actually enjoy. It also suits a room where the bed shares space with a desk or storage, since the 90cm width keeps floor space free.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult who spreads out at night, or you're buying for a growing teen who'll want more width soon. We'd recommend the UK small double instead: it's 30cm wider, the same length, and needs a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m.

Is the Harrison Spinks Pure Response UK single a good mattress for a child?
Yes, with a caveat. The natural fillings, chemical-free fire-retardant cover and supportive spring system make it a strong choice for a child or teenager, and it should last well into their teens. The caveat is cost: it's a significant spend for a child's room, so it makes most sense if you're buying once and keeping it for years.
Will the UK single Pure Response fit a bunk bed or mid sleeper?
The 90 x 190cm footprint matches standard UK bunk and mid-sleeper frames. The thing to check is depth: this mattress is 24cm deep, and many raised frames set a maximum depth so the guard rail still does its job. Check your frame's stated limit before buying, as 24cm is deeper than some allow.
What room size do I need for the Pure Response in a UK single?
We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space. That gives you room to walk alongside the bed and open drawers or a wardrobe. In practice the UK single fits almost any UK bedroom, including box rooms and loft conversions where the bed has to sit against one wall or under a slope.
Does the Pure Response come in dual tension in a UK single?
No. Dual tension, where each half of the mattress has its own firmness, is only offered on the UK king and UK super king, since it's designed for couples who disagree on feel. In the UK single you choose one tension for the whole mattress, either medium or firm, matched to the single sleeper using it.
Should I buy the UK single or the UK small double for one adult?
The UK single works well if the room is tight or the bed shares space with a desk and storage. If you have the space, the UK small double is 30cm wider and the same length, which gives a solo adult noticeably more room to move. We suggest at least 2.4m x 2.8m for the UK small double.
