- Cover. A wool-blend cover woven in-house, which is fire-retardant without chemical treatments. That means fire safety comes from the wool itself rather than added sprays.
- Fillings. Naturally cooling and moisture-wicking fillings, including responsibly sourced and fully traceable British wool, hemp and flax grown on the Harrison Spinks farm. These help regulate temperature through the night.
- Micro springs. A layer of 2,500 high-density micro springs sits above the main support unit. These give closer-contouring pressure relief and added comfort, doing a similar job to a comfort layer in a foam mattress.
- Pocket spring system. The award-winning Advanced Cortec Quad pocket spring system, with 3,250 springs in the king size. Each spring moves independently, which means less motion transfer and support that follows your shape.

- Real space for one: At 120cm across, the UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, so a solo adult can starfish rather than sleep to attention.
- Fits rooms a double crowds: It's 15cm narrower than a UK double, which can be the difference between a walkway beside the bed and shuffling in sideways.
- Natural fillings in a compact size: You get the same British wool, hemp and flax as the bigger sizes, which means temperature regulation isn't reserved for people with large bedrooms.
- Full spring comfort at 4ft: The 2,500 micro springs sit above the Advanced Cortec Quad pocket spring unit, so pressure relief doesn't thin out just because the mattress is narrower.
- Easy to dress: 4ft is a standard UK size, so small double fitted sheets are simple to find and a standard double duvet drapes generously over it.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone most nights and have outgrown a single but can't spare the floor space a full double demands, you're furnishing a box room, loft conversion or compact second bedroom where every centimetre of width matters, or you're kitting out a guest room that hosts the occasional couple rather than anyone nightly. Allow at least 2.4m x 2.8m of floor space.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, or you want the dual tension option this mattress offers. Two adults will find 120cm tight long term, and dual tension isn't available at this size, so we'd recommend the UK king instead; allow at least 2.7m x 2.9m for it.

What are the dimensions of the Harrison Spinks Pure Response small double?
The UK small double measures 120 x 190cm, or 4ft x 6ft 3in, with a depth of 24cm. That depth is generous for a pocket spring mattress, so check it works with your headboard height and buy deep fitted sheets in the small double size.
Can a couple sleep on the Pure Response in a small double?
For the odd night, yes. The pocket springs move independently, so you won't roll into each other every time one of you turns. For every night, 120cm shared between two adults is a squeeze, and we'd point regular couples towards the UK double or UK king instead.
Does the Pure Response small double come in dual tension?
No. Dual tension, where each side of the mattress has its own firmness, is only offered on the UK king and UK super king. In the small double you choose one tension for the whole mattress, medium or firm, which is rarely a problem since this size is mostly slept on solo.
What room size do I need for a small double mattress?
We suggest a room of at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That leaves enough clearance to open the door fully and walk down at least one side of the bed. In a loft conversion, also check where the ceiling slopes, since standing room beside the bed matters as much as floor area.
Should I choose the small double or the double in this mattress?
The UK small double is 15cm narrower than the UK double, and both are the same length. If the room comfortably takes a double, the extra width is usually worth having; we suggest at least 2.6m x 2.8m for the UK double. If it doesn't, the small double spares you a cramped room.
