- The classic couples' footprint: At 135 x 190cm, or 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in, this is the traditional shared size, which means it fits standard double frames without fuss.
- A fair share of space each: Two people sharing get 67.5cm each, enough for most settled couples, although restless sleepers may want more.
- Suits typical UK bedrooms: We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m, a footprint most main bedrooms and many second bedrooms can manage with furniture in place.
- Rolled delivery, easier access: It arrives compressed in a box, which means turning stairs in an older terrace or a tight new build landing is far less of a battle.
- Leaves room to live around it: Being 15cm narrower than the UK king, it frees up wall space for a wardrobe, drawers or bedside tables on both sides.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want the standard couples' size, your bedroom is a typical UK one where a UK king would crowd the walkways, or you're furnishing a guest room that needs to sleep visiting couples comfortably. It also suits solo sleepers who like to spread out, even with a dog or cat claiming a corner.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both shift around at night and 67.5cm of width each sounds tight. Provided your room allows it, we'd recommend the UK king instead, which is 15cm wider.

How much space does each person get on the Highgrove Dawson UK double?
Two people sharing get 67.5cm of width each. That's comfortable for most couples who sleep fairly still, although if either of you sprawls or turns a lot, it can feel a little snug. In that case the UK king, which is 15cm wider, is the better shout.
Will the Highgrove Dawson UK double fit up narrow stairs?
It should be one of the easier deliveries. The Dawson arrives rolled and compressed in a box, so you're carrying a manageable package rather than manoeuvring a full 135 x 190cm mattress around a turning staircase or a tight landing. Once it's in the room, unroll it on the bed frame and let it expand.
What room size do we suggest for the Highgrove Dawson in a UK double?
We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m. That gives you space to walk round the bed and open drawers, and in most rooms it still leaves room for bedside tables on both sides. This is our guidance rather than Highgrove's, so measure your own room before committing.
Is the UK double the biggest size the Highgrove Dawson comes in?
No. The Dawson comes in six UK sizes, running from small single up to super king, so there are two wider options above the UK double. The UK king is 15cm wider and the UK super king is 45cm wider, both useful if your room can take the extra width.
Is the Highgrove Dawson double a good choice for a guest room?
It's a sensible fit. A UK double sleeps visiting couples without dominating a modest guest room, and double bedding is stocked everywhere at every price. One caution: Highgrove doesn't publish construction or firmness details for this mattress, so check the specification with the retailer if your guests have particular comfort needs.
