Key benefits
- Fits where space is tight: At 3ft wide, this single leaves room for a desk, wardrobe and toy storage in a child's bedroom without the bed dominating the floor.
- Works for two-bed rooms: Siblings sharing a room, or a guest room set up with twin beds, can fit two UK singles with a walkway between in most spaces.
- Standard frame compatibility: The 90 x 190cm footprint matches the standard UK single, so it should drop into an existing frame in a student room or first flat.
- Cheap, easy bedding: Single sheets and a 135 x 200cm single duvet are the most widely stocked bedding of any UK size, which keeps running costs down.
- Modest room requirement: We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space, a footprint that even a loft conversion or box room can usually manage.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for a child or teenager, kitting out a spare room or student flat where the frame is already provided, or you sleep alone and want the smallest standard adult size. It also suits a guest room deliberately arranged as two separate beds rather than one larger one.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult who moves around at night and finds 90cm restrictive, or you occasionally share the bed. We'd recommend the UK small double instead, which gives you 30cm more width for one sleeper.

FAQ's
What size is the Highgrove Solar Orthopocket 1500 UK single?
It measures 90 x 190cm, which is 3ft x 6ft 3in. That's the standard UK single, so it fits the usual single frames, divans and slatted bases without any adjustment. Allow at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space in the room, which is our own guidance rather than Highgrove's.
Will the UK single Solar Orthopocket 1500 fit a bunk or mid sleeper?
The 90 x 190cm footprint matches standard UK bunk and mid-sleeper frames, so the width and length are fine. Depth matters too: guard rails need a set amount of mattress showing above them, and Highgrove doesn't publish verified depth details with us, so check the retailer listing against your frame's rail height before buying.
Is a UK single big enough for an adult?
For one adult, yes, provided you're comfortable with 90cm of width. It's the standard solo size for student rooms, first flats and spare bedrooms. If you're broad shouldered or tend to sprawl, the UK small double gives noticeably more room while still suiting a single sleeper, so consider that if your bedroom allows.
Can I fit two of these singles in one room?
Often, yes. Two 90cm-wide beds plus a walkway between them works in many shared children's rooms and twin guest rooms. We suggest at least 2.1m x 2.8m per single as a baseline, so measure your room with both beds and the gap in mind before ordering a pair.
What bedding fits the UK single Solar Orthopocket 1500?
Standard UK single fitted sheets and a 135 x 200cm single duvet fit this size, and both are the cheapest and most widely available bedding in the UK. One caveat: fitted sheet depth depends on the mattress depth, which Highgrove hasn't confirmed to us, so check the retailer's spec before buying deep-pocket sheets.
