Layer Details
- Cover. A soft to touch Belgian damask cover.
- Comfort layer. A blended layer of wool and polyester fibres, plush for comfort. The blend has breathable properties that increase airflow through the mattress.
- Comfort layer. A blend of rebound cotton and polyester that wicks moisture away from your body. This helps the sleep surface feel fresher.
- Support pad. A durable eOlus dual density pad made from recycled materials, with a firmer feel. It helps distribute your weight evenly across the springs below.
- Support system. 1400 ReActive pocket springs, with firmer outer rows to create edge to edge support.
Layer details from mattressonline.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- 75cm of width each: Two people get 75cm each across the 150cm width, so you can both change position without negotiating for space.
- Movement stays on their side: The 1400 ReActive pocket springs compress individually, which means an early alarm and a quiet exit on one side is less likely to wake the other.
- Extra length for taller sleepers: At 200cm long, the UK king adds 10cm over the UK double, a real difference if either of you is approaching six foot.
- Usable right to the edge: Firmer outer spring rows support the perimeter, so the full 150cm is genuinely sleepable rather than a soft border you roll away from.
- Natural fibres across a bigger surface: The wool and cotton layers breathe well, helpful on a shared bed where two bodies generate more heat than one.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and a double has started to feel tight, one of you keeps different hours and you'd like their comings and goings to disturb you less, or one of you is tall enough that a standard 190cm mattress leaves feet near the edge. It also suits couples whose dog has quietly claimed a corner and shows no sign of giving it back.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom falls short of the 2.7m x 2.9m we suggest for a UK king, or you sleep alone. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which needs around 2.6m x 2.8m and still offers this mattress's full construction.

Is a UK king Hypnos Cawthorne big enough for a couple?
For most couples, yes. The 150cm width gives you 75cm each, and the firmer outer spring rows mean the edges stay supportive, so you can use the full width rather than drifting towards the middle. Restless sleepers or anyone who sprawls may still prefer the UK super king, which is 30cm wider.
Will the king size Cawthorne reduce partner disturbance?
The pocket springs help here. Each of the 1400 ReActive springs moves on its own, so movement doesn't travel across the mattress the way it does on an open coil bed. Combined with 75cm of width each, one of you getting up at 5am is far less likely to wake the other than on a double.
What room size do I need for the Cawthorne in a UK king?
We suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m, which leaves enough room to walk round the bed and open drawers. That's our guidance rather than the manufacturer's. In a new build master bedroom, measure after allowing for wardrobes; rooms that look generous empty can feel tight once storage goes in.
Is the UK king Cawthorne long enough for someone over 6ft?
At 200cm (the full size is 5ft x 6ft 6in), it's 10cm longer than a UK double or single, and that extra length is often the real reason taller sleepers upgrade. Someone around six foot gets clear space above the head and below the feet, which a 190cm mattress can't offer.
Should I get the Cawthorne in a UK king or super king?
The UK king suits most couples and most rooms. The UK super king is 30cm wider but the same length, so it's a width upgrade only, and it needs a bigger room: we suggest at least 3m x 2.9m. If your room comfortably clears that and you both like space, size up; otherwise the UK king is the safer buy.
