Layer details from mattressonline.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- 90cm each, every night: Two people sharing get 90cm each, which means a partner who turns over a dozen times a night becomes far easier to sleep through.
- Independent springs suit the extra width: The 1400 ReActive pocket springs move individually, so movement on one side of this wide surface is less likely to travel across to yours.
- Room for company: If a child wanders in at 3am, or a large dog treats the bed as its own, 180cm of width means everyone still gets a fair share.
- Usable right to the edge: Firmer outer rows of springs support the perimeter, so you can spread across the full 6ft width rather than avoiding the sides.
- Natural fibres across a big surface: Wool and cotton layers move heat and moisture away, useful when two adults, and sometimes more, are warming one mattress.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and one of you is a genuinely restless sleeper, because at this width distance does more for your sleep than any comfort layer could. It also suits you if children or pets regularly join you, or if you have a large master bedroom, ideally around 3.5m x 3.2m, where a smaller bed would look and feel undersized.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom falls short of our suggested 3m x 2.9m minimum, or you sleep alone. We'd recommend the UK king instead: it is 30cm narrower, the same length, and we suggest at least 2.7m x 2.9m for it.

Is the Hypnos Cawthorne super king good for restless couples?
It is one of the better sizes for the job. The 1400 pocket springs respond independently, so movement transfers less than a connected spring unit would allow, and the 90cm each of a UK super king adds physical distance on top. If your partner fidgets, that combination of width and independent springs is more effective than any single comfort layer.
What room size do I need for the Cawthorne in a UK super king?
We suggest a minimum of 3m x 2.9m, with around 3.5m x 3.2m feeling comfortable once you add bedside tables on both sides and space to walk around. Check door swing too: a 180cm wide bed can sit closer to the door than you expect. In anything smaller, the UK king is the safer choice.
Is the super king worth it over the UK king for this mattress?
If your room can take it, usually yes. The UK super king is 30cm wider than the UK king and the same length, and that extra width is what turns a shared bed into one where children, pets or a restless partner stop disturbing you. If you sleep alone or the room is tight, the UK king does the job.
Can you sleep near the edge of the Cawthorne super king?
Yes. The outer rows of springs are firmer than the centre, which means the perimeter holds your weight rather than tipping you off. On a mattress this wide that matters more than usual, because the whole point of a UK super king is using all 180cm, including when a child lands in the middle.
What bedding fits the Cawthorne in a super king?
Standard UK super king sheets fit the 180 x 200cm surface, and a 260 x 220cm duvet is the usual pairing. It is a 26cm deep mattress, so most super king fitted sheets will cope, though it is sensible to check the stated depth on any sheets you already own. Budget for the bedding: this size costs more to dress.
