- Real space for a solo sleeper: At 120cm wide, the UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, which means room to stretch or change position without hanging off the edge.
- Fits compact rooms: It's 15cm narrower than the UK double, so it suits box rooms, studios and loft conversions where every centimetre of floor matters.
- Pocket spring support at 4ft: Individually pocketed springs respond to your shoulders and hips separately, which means proper contouring even on a narrower mattress.
- Medium firm feel: A medium firm rating suits back sleepers and most side sleepers of average build, giving steady support for nightly solo use.
- Soft chenille cover: The chenille sleeping surface is a gently woven fabric, so the mattress feels welcoming under sheets rather than stiff or scratchy.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a UK single but your room can't take a full double, you're furnishing a guest room where couples stay occasionally rather than nightly, or you're downsizing and the bed has to fit the new room rather than the old one. Allow at least 2.4m x 2.8m of floor space and the 120cm width will sit comfortably.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night and both of you like your own space, in which case 120cm will feel tight. We'd recommend the UK king instead, allowing at least 2.7m x 2.9m of room.

How big is the Cotton Pocket 1400 in a UK small double?
This size measures 120 x 190cm, or 4ft x 6ft 3in. That's the same length as a UK single and UK double, with a width that sits between the two: 30cm wider than the single, 15cm narrower than the double.
Is a small double big enough for a couple every night?
For occasional nights, yes, which makes it a sensible guest room choice. For nightly sharing, 120cm is a squeeze for two adults, and the pocket springs can't add width they don't have. If you share every night, the UK double or UK king of this mattress would suit you better.
What room size do I need for a small double mattress?
We suggest allowing at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That leaves enough space to walk around the bed and open doors and drawers. In a box room or studio, that 15cm saving over a UK double can be the difference between a door that clears the bed and one that doesn't.
Is the Cotton Pocket 1400 small double good for a teenager?
It's a strong fit. A teenager who has outgrown a UK single gets 30cm of extra width, while the room keeps more floor space than a full double would allow. The medium firm feel suits growing back and combination sleepers, although very light side sleepers may find it slightly solid at the shoulder.
Where can I buy the Cotton Pocket 1400 in a small double?
Availability changes, so the most reliable answer is the live price table on this page, which is updated as retailers change their listings. Because 4ft is a standard UK size, matching frames and small double fitted sheets are easy to find on the high street too.
