Layer Details
Surface
A soft damask fabric cover, machine stitched for longevity and traditionally tufted. Tufting holds the fillings in place, which means fewer lumps developing over the years.
Comfort layer
A blend of natural wool, mohair, silk and kapok. Kapok is exceptionally durable, naturally hypoallergenic, highly breathable and moisture-wicking, which means a cooler, fresher feel through the night.
Support layer
Platinum 3D polyester that is fully recyclable at the end of its life. A small but welcome nod to sustainability in a category that often ends up in landfill.
Spring system
Individually wrapped pocket springs distribute body weight evenly for full-body support. Micro pocket springs react to the slightest movement, which means better contouring and less partner disturbance.
Layer details from featherandblack.com product page, September 2026.
- Real space for two: At 75cm each for two people sharing, you can change position freely without waking whoever is next to you.
- Less disturbance across the width: The micro pocket springs contour to movement individually, which means one partner getting up early is felt far less across a 150cm span.
- Length for taller sleepers: The UK king is 10cm longer than the UK double at 200cm, so anyone approaching 6ft stops sleeping diagonally.
- Natural fills across a bigger surface: The wool, mohair, silk and kapok comfort layer is breathable and moisture-wicking, useful when two bodies share one mattress every night.
- A flippable investment size: The Arlen is double-sided, and turning it regularly matters more in a shared size where both halves get nightly use.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and a double has started to feel cramped, especially if one of you keeps different hours and gets up while the other is still asleep. It also suits couples where one partner is approaching 6ft, since the extra length matters as much as the width, or households where the dog has quietly claimed a corner and 135cm no longer stretches to three.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom falls short of the 2.7m x 2.9m we suggest for a UK king, or you sleep alone. In either case we'd recommend the UK double instead, which needs at least 2.6m x 2.8m.

Is the Feather & Black Arlen in a UK king big enough for a couple?
Comfortably, for most. Two people sharing get 75cm each, and the Arlen's individually wrapped pocket springs mean each of you is supported on your own side rather than rolling towards the middle. If one of you is broad-shouldered or you share with a pet, the UK super king adds another 30cm of width.
What are the dimensions of the Arlen UK king?
It measures 150 x 200cm, which is 5ft x 6ft 6in. That's 15cm wider and 10cm longer than the UK double, so you gain space in both directions, a point often missed by shoppers comparing widths alone.
Will a UK king Arlen fit in my bedroom?
We suggest a room of at least 2.7m x 2.9m. New build master bedrooms can be tighter than they first appear once fitted wardrobes go in, so measure the clear floor space, not the room. If you're short of that, the UK double needs at least 2.6m x 2.8m.
Is the UK king Arlen worth it over the double for a tall sleeper?
If either of you is approaching 6ft, yes. The UK king is 10cm longer than the UK double at 200cm, which stops feet hanging off the end or heads pressed against the headboard. For tall couples the length is often the real upgrade, with the extra width a welcome bonus.
Where can I buy the Arlen mattress in a UK king?
The Arlen is made exclusively for Feather & Black, so availability is narrower than for mainstream brands. Compare the retailers listed on this page; the prices shown here are updated as retailers change them, so they're a more reliable guide than any figure we could print.
