Layer Details
- Surface. A soft damask fabric cover, machine stitched for longevity and traditionally tufted. Tufting holds the fillings in place, which means fewer lumps developing over the years.
- Comfort layer. A blend of natural wool, mohair, silk and kapok. Kapok is exceptionally durable, naturally hypoallergenic, highly breathable and moisture-wicking, which means a cooler, fresher feel through the night.
- Support layer. Platinum 3D polyester that is fully recyclable at the end of its life. A small but welcome nod to sustainability in a category that often ends up in landfill.
- Spring system. Individually wrapped pocket springs distribute body weight evenly for full-body support. Micro pocket springs react to the slightest movement, which means better contouring and less partner disturbance.
Layer details from featherandblack.com product page, September 2026.
- Genuine space for two: At 6ft x 6ft 6in you each get 90cm of width, roughly a single bed's worth of personal territory apiece.
- Distance beats disturbance: The micro pocket springs already limit motion transfer, but at this width a fidgety partner is simply too far away to feel.
- Room for the household: Children who appear at 3am, or a dog who treats the bed as routine, can be accommodated without pushing anyone to the edge.
- Cooler at scale: The wool, mohair, silk and kapok comfort layer breathes well, and with 90cm each you're less likely to share body heat anyway.
- Flippable for the long haul: The double-sided design lets you flip it to extend its life, sensible at a premium price, though at this size flipping takes two people.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and one of you is a genuinely restless sleeper, you regularly end up with children or pets in the bed and still want a fair share each, or you have a large master bedroom where a UK king would look undersized. Allow at least 3m x 2.9m of floor space, with around 3.5m x 3.2m feeling comfortable.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom is under 3m x 2.9m, or you'd struggle to manoeuvre a large double-sided mattress up your stairs. We'd recommend the UK king instead: it's 30cm narrower, the same length, and needs at least 2.7m x 2.9m.

How much bigger is a super king Arlen than a king?
The UK super king is 30cm wider than the UK king, and the two are the same length at 200cm. That extra 30cm of width is the whole argument: it takes a couple from comfortable to properly undisturbed, which matters most if one of you moves around a lot at night.
Is the Feather & Black Arlen super king difficult to flip?
It's double-sided, so flipping is part of the maintenance, and at 180 x 200cm it's a two-person job. That's a little inconvenient, but the flippable construction is one of the things that helps this mattress last, so it's a chore we'd say is worth keeping up.
Will the Feather & Black Arlen super king fit in my bedroom?
We suggest a minimum room of 3m x 2.9m, with around 3.5m x 3.2m feeling right once you add bedside tables and walking space. Measure the route in too: door swings and landing turns catch people out at this size, and the Arlen doesn't arrive rolled in a box.
Is the super king Arlen good for families sharing with children or pets?
It's one of the better cases for this size. With 90cm of width each, a child climbing in at night or a dog settling at the foot doesn't force anyone to the edge, and the micro pocket springs respond locally, so their movement is less likely to travel across to you.
Where can I buy the Arlen in a UK super king?
Compare the retailers listed on this page. The prices shown here are updated as retailers change them, so it's worth checking back before you commit. Stock of the UK super king can differ from the smaller sizes, so availability on the day matters as much as the headline price.
