- Sleep surface. A quilted sleep surface wrapped in soft-touch damask fabric, machine stitched for longevity. This is the traditional, breathable finish you'd expect from a sprung mattress rather than a knitted foam-style cover.
- Comfort layer. British wool and mohair sit beneath the surface, regulating temperature and wicking away moisture. In practice that means a drier, cooler feel than synthetic fillings, which is welcome if you tend to overheat.
- Support layer. A layer of Platinum 3D polyester that is fully recyclable at the end of the mattress's life. It adds structure between the fillings and the springs while keeping disposal a little greener.
- Spring system. Individually wrapped pocket springs paired with micro pocket springs that react to the slightest movement. Because each spring moves independently, you're less likely to feel a partner shifting on the other side of the bed.

- A slim profile for bunk and cabin frames: At 23cm deep, the Walters stays within the safety rail height of most bunk beds and mid sleepers, which many deeper sprung mattresses do not.
- Fits compact rooms: At 3ft wide, this size leaves floor space for a desk, wardrobe and toy storage in a child's room, and we suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m.
- Firm support for growing sleepers: The firm tension and 7,200 pocket springs suit front and back sleepers, and teenagers who have outgrown a softer children's mattress.
- Natural fillings for warm rooms: Wool and mohair wick away moisture and regulate temperature, useful in a loft conversion or small bedroom that traps heat in summer.
- Cheap, easy bedding: Standard single sheets and a 135 x 200cm duvet fit, and both are the most widely stocked and affordable bedding of any UK size.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for a teenager or older child who needs firmer support than a basic children's mattress, you sleep alone on your front or back and want a traditional sprung feel, or you're furnishing a spare room or study that occasionally hosts guests and want something that lasts between visits.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult sleeping in this bed every night and find 90cm of width restrictive. The UK small double is 30cm wider and the same length, and we suggest allowing at least 2.4m x 2.8m of floor space for it.

What are the dimensions of the Walters mattress in a UK single?
The UK single measures 90 x 190cm, which is 3ft x 6ft 3in. It's the standard UK one-person size, so it fits any standard single bed frame and takes standard single fitted sheets and a 135 x 200cm duvet without any hunting for unusual bedding.
Will the Walters UK single fit a bunk bed or mid sleeper?
In most cases, yes. The Walters is 23cm deep, slimmer than many pocket sprung mattresses, so it should sit below the safety rail on most bunk and cabin frames. Check your frame's maximum mattress depth before buying, as raised beds vary, but this is one of the easier sprung mattresses to accommodate.
Is the Walters single a good choice for a child's room?
For older children and teenagers, yes: the firm tension supports a growing back and the wool and mohair fillings breathe well. Lightweight younger children may find it a little too firm, as smaller bodies don't press far enough into a firm surface. The 90cm width leaves room for a desk and storage in a typical child's bedroom.
How much floor space does a single mattress need?
We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m, which gives you walking space around the bed. That makes the UK single an easy fit under a loft slope, in a box room, or in a spare room that doubles as an office, where a wider mattress would crowd the desk.
