Layer Details
- Sleep surface. A quilted sleep surface wrapped in soft-touch damask fabric, machine stitched for longevity. This is the traditional, breathable finish you'd expect from a sprung mattress rather than a knitted foam-style cover.
- Comfort layer. British wool and mohair sit beneath the surface, regulating temperature and wicking away moisture. In practice that means a drier, cooler feel than synthetic fillings, which is welcome if you tend to overheat.
- Support layer. A layer of Platinum 3D polyester that is fully recyclable at the end of the mattress's life. It adds structure between the fillings and the springs while keeping disposal a little greener.
- Spring system. Individually wrapped pocket springs paired with micro pocket springs that react to the slightest movement. Because each spring moves independently, you're less likely to feel a partner shifting on the other side of the bed.
Layer details from featherandblack.com product page, September 2026.
- Distance beats disturbance: With 90cm each for two people sharing, a fidgety partner is simply further away, and the independently moving pocket springs soften whatever movement is left.
- Room for the whole household: When a child pads in at 3am, the 6ft width means everyone keeps a workable share of the bed rather than someone retreating to the edge.
- Firm support across a wide surface: The firm tension holds its shape edge to edge, so front and back sleepers get consistent support even when they drift towards the sides.
- Cooler sharing: Three bodies generate heat, and the wool and mohair layer wicks moisture away, which helps a crowded super king stay comfortable through the night.
- Fills a larger room properly: In a big master bedroom a UK king can look undersized, and the 180 x 200cm footprint suits the space as well as the sleepers.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and want enough width that a restless partner stops being your problem, or your children or dogs treat the bed as partly theirs and you'd rather plan for that than fight it. It also suits you if you have a large master bedroom where a smaller bed would look lost, and you can allow at least 3m x 2.9m of floor space.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom is smaller than the 3m x 2.9m we suggest for this size, or you sleep alone. In either case we'd recommend the UK king instead, which is 30cm narrower, the same length, and needs at least 2.7m x 2.9m.

Is the Walters super king good for restless partners?
It's one of the better cases for this size. Each of the pocket springs moves independently, so a partner turning over transmits little movement, and at 180cm wide you have 90cm each, which puts real distance between you. Yes, the firm tension means less sink and cradle, but for undisturbed sharing the combination works well.
Will the Walters in a UK super king fit my bedroom?
The mattress measures 180 x 200cm, or 6ft x 6ft 6in. We suggest a room of at least 3m x 2.9m so you can still open drawers, swing the door and walk round both sides. If your room falls short of that, the UK king needs at least 2.7m x 2.9m and gives up 30cm of width, nothing in length.
Should I choose the Walters in a UK king or a UK super king?
If you share with children or pets, or one of you moves a lot at night, the UK super king's extra 30cm of width is the difference that matters, since both sizes are the same length. If it's just the two of you and the room is tighter, the UK king does the job. Firmness and construction are identical in both.
Is the Walters super king suitable for a family bed?
The size is, provided everyone's comfortable on a firm mattress. With 6ft of width a visiting child doesn't push anyone to the edge, and the wool and mohair layer helps with the extra warmth several bodies create. Lightweight children sleeping on their sides may find the firm tension less forgiving than an adult would.
