Cover
A quality Belgian damask fabric with a traditional hand tufting finish. The tufting, done with nylon tapes and cotton tufts on both sides, holds the fillings in place and adds to the firm feel.
Fillings
White fibre fillings, a lightweight, high loft material that retains its shape well. It is hypo-allergenic, which means fewer irritants for allergy-prone sleepers.
Spring System
Open coil springs set out in rows from head to toe, each row joined by a spiral helical wire. This gives a connected, traditional support feel rather than the independent movement of pocket springs.
Border
A thick rod-edge wire runs around the perimeter springs to reinforce the border. In practice that means better edge support when sitting on the side of the bed.

- The classic shared size: At 135 x 190cm, the UK double is the long-established two-person standard, and this firm, no-frills mattress fits that everyday role well.
- Fits typical UK bedrooms: We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m, which most doubles rooms in flats and older houses clear comfortably.
- Usable edge to edge: A rod-edge wire reinforces the border springs, which matters at this width because couples tend to sleep closer to the sides.
- Two people can flip it: The double-sided design needs regular turning, and a 135cm mattress is a manageable size for two people to handle together.
- Easy to dress: Standard double sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet are stocked everywhere, useful if you're kitting out a whole home in one go.
This size suits you if...
You're a couple who wants a firm bed in a room where a UK king would crowd out the bedside tables, or you're furnishing a guest room that has to sleep visiting couples without complaint. It also suits a solo sleeper who likes space to spread out, or shares with a pet, and prefers a supportive, traditional feel over a soft, cradling one.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night and either of you is a restless sleeper, since open coil springs at 67.5cm each will pass movement across. If your room allows it, we'd recommend the UK king instead, which is 15cm wider.

Is a UK double big enough for a couple on an open coil mattress?
It can be, with a caveat. The UK double gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing, which is workable, but this mattress's open coil springs move as one connected unit, so you'll feel a partner turning over more than you would on pocket springs. Settled sleepers will be fine; light sleepers sharing nightly may want more width.
Will the Highgrove Solar Luxury Dream double fit my bedroom?
The mattress is 135 x 190cm, or 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in. We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm, which leaves space to walk round the bed and fit bedside tables on both sides. Most main bedrooms and many second bedrooms manage that easily.
Is the double a good choice for a guest room?
Yes, arguably its best use. A guest room needs to handle visiting couples and solo guests alike, and the UK double does both without dominating the room. The firm feel divides opinion less for occasional use than nightly sleeping, and the hypo-allergenic white fibre fillings are a sensible touch for a bed different people will use.
Is a UK double easier to turn than a UK king?
Somewhat, and with this mattress that matters. The double-sided design needs regular flipping to even out wear, and at 135cm wide the UK double is easier for two people to grip and turn than the UK king, which is 15cm wider. It's still a two-person job, so factor that in if you live alone.
