Cover
A hard wearing Belgian damask cover with a hand tufted finish. The tufting isn't just decorative: it adds strength and helps the mattress hold its shape over time.
Fillings
Several layers of quality fillings, including white fibre, a lightweight, high loft material that's hypo-allergenic and keeps its shape, alongside Tencel. Tencel is a eucalyptus treated fibre that improves heat flow and moisture dissipation, which means less clamminess on warm nights.
Spring System
An extra firm open coil unit made of rows of hourglass shaped Bonnell springs, connected top and bottom by a helical wire running from head to foot. This gives a firm, uniform feel across the whole surface rather than the contouring you'd get from pocket springs.
Edge Support
A thick rod-edge wire strengthens the perimeter of the spring unit. In practice that means firmer edges to sit on and less of the border breakdown that cheaper open coil mattresses can suffer.
Layer details from archerssleepcentre.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Fits compact rooms: At 90cm wide it leaves floor space free for a desk, wardrobe or toy storage, and we suggest a room of at least 2.1m x 2.8m.
- Extra firm support for growing sleepers: The Bonnell spring unit gives an even, traditional firmness across the surface, which many parents prefer for children and teens over a soft, sink-in feel.
- Firm edges on a narrow bed: A rod-edge wire strengthens the perimeter, which matters more on a 90cm mattress where you naturally sleep closer to the side.
- Tencel fillings for warm sleepers: Eucalyptus treated Tencel fibres help move heat and moisture away, useful in small bedrooms and loft rooms that warm up quickly.
- Cheap, easy bedding: Standard single sheets and a 135 x 200cm single duvet fit, and both are the most widely stocked and affordable bedding of any UK size.
- Two usable sides: The mattress can be used on both sides, so flipping it regularly should keep the fillings settling evenly through years of nightly use.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for a child or teenager who needs firm, no-frills support, you're setting up a spare room or a study that hosts guests a few nights a year, or you're a single adult in a compact room, perhaps a student room or first flat where the frame came with the tenancy but the mattress didn't.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult who wants more room to stretch out, or you share the bed even occasionally. We'd recommend the UK small double instead, which at 120cm wide gives you a noticeably roomier surface for one.

Will the Highgrove Solar Ortho Dream UK single fit a bunk bed?
The footprint of 90 x 190cm matches standard UK bunk and mid sleeper frames, but the depth needs checking. At 27cm this is a full-height traditional mattress, and many raised frames require a shallower mattress so the guard rail still sits well above the sleeping surface. Check your frame's maximum mattress depth before buying.
Is a UK single big enough for an adult on this mattress?
For one adult, usually yes. At 90cm wide and 190cm long it's the standard one-person size, and the rod-edge wire keeps the sides supportive when you sleep near them. Sleepers over about 6ft may find the 190cm length snug, and anyone who likes to sprawl would be happier sizing up to the UK small double.
What room size do I need for a single Solar Ortho Dream?
We suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space, which gives you room to walk alongside the bed and open drawers or a wardrobe. That makes the UK single a realistic fit for box rooms, loft conversions with a narrow footprint, or a child's bedroom where the bed competes with a desk and toy storage.
How much smaller is the UK single than the small double in this mattress?
The UK single is 30cm narrower than the UK small double, with both sharing the same 190cm length. That 30cm is the difference between a bed for a child or one compact sleeper and a roomier bed for a single adult. If two single beds plus a walkway need to fit one shared room, the UK single is the practical choice.
Where can I buy the Highgrove Solar Ortho Dream in a UK single?
Compare the retailers listed on this page; the prices shown are updated as retailers change them, so it's worth checking here rather than relying on an older listing. Availability at this end of the market can shift, and the UK single is typically the cheapest size in the range, though the exact figure varies by retailer.
