Cover
A hard wearing Belgian damask cover with a hand tufted finish. The tufting isn't just decorative: it adds strength and helps the mattress hold its shape over time.
Fillings
Several layers of quality fillings, including white fibre, a lightweight, high loft material that's hypo-allergenic and keeps its shape, alongside Tencel. Tencel is a eucalyptus treated fibre that improves heat flow and moisture dissipation, which means less clamminess on warm nights.
Spring System
An extra firm open coil unit made of rows of hourglass shaped Bonnell springs, connected top and bottom by a helical wire running from head to foot. This gives a firm, uniform feel across the whole surface rather than the contouring you'd get from pocket springs.
Edge Support
A thick rod-edge wire strengthens the perimeter of the spring unit. In practice that means firmer edges to sit on and less of the border breakdown that cheaper open coil mattresses can suffer.
Layer details from archerssleepcentre.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Distance beats motion transfer: Open coil springs do pass movement across the bed, but with 90cm each a fidgeting partner is simply further away and far easier to sleep through.
- Room for night-time visitors: When a child pads in at 3am, the 6ft width means everyone keeps a workable share of the bed rather than someone ending up on the edge.
- Edges you can actually use: The rod-edge wire firms up the full perimeter, which matters more at this size because a wider bed invites sleeping right out to the border.
- Even feel across the whole width: The Bonnell spring unit gives a uniform, extra firm surface from side to side, so neither sleeper drifts into a dip in the middle.
- Cooler across a bigger surface: Tencel fibres in the fillings help move heat and moisture away, and two people spread across 180cm generate less trapped warmth than they would huddled on a smaller size.
This size suits you if...
You share every night and want the most sleeping space a standard UK size offers, your partner shifts around and you'd rather solve it with distance than with fancy comfort layers, or children and pets treat your bed as communal and you need 90cm each to survive it. It also suits a large master bedroom where a UK king would look undersized against the wall.
Consider another size if...
Your room is smaller than our suggested minimum of 3m x 2.9m, or you sleep alone. The UK king would suit you better: 30cm narrower, still generous for two, and easier to fit and dress.

What room size do I need for a super king Highgrove Solar Ortho Dream?
We suggest a room of at least 3m x 2.9m, with something nearer 3.5m x 3.2m feeling comfortable once you add bedside tables and space to walk around. The mattress itself is 180 x 200cm, so measure the wall you plan to put it against, and check the door swing clears the footprint.
Is the Solar Ortho Dream super king good for restless partners?
Yes, with a caveat. Open coil springs transfer more movement than pocket springs, so you will feel a big turn on any size of this mattress. The super king compensates with sheer distance: 90cm each means most of your partner's shuffling happens too far away to wake you fully.
Will a super king mattress get up my stairs?
At 6ft x 6ft 6in this is the size where stairs, landings and door frames start to bite, so measure any tight turns before ordering. An open coil mattress like this arrives full size rather than rolled, and it has some flex but shouldn't be folded hard around a banister.
How much wider is the super king than the king in this mattress?
The UK super king is 30cm wider than the UK king, at 180cm against 150cm, and both are 200cm long. Spread between two people that extra width is noticeable every night, particularly with an extra firm mattress like this where you won't sink into a shared dip in the middle.
Is this super king the same width as two singles?
Yes. At 180cm the UK super king matches two 90cm UK singles side by side, the footprint hotel zip and link beds use. This is one solid mattress rather than two halves, though, so it won't split for awkward staircases and both sides share the same extra firm feel.
