- Cover. A stretch knit fabric with a quilted finish. This gives the sleep surface a soft, slightly cushioned top layer against the firm build beneath.
- Fillings. White fibre fillings, a lightweight, high loft material that holds its shape over time. They are also hypo-allergenic, which helps if you're prone to allergies.
- Foam Core. A reflex foam core that conforms to your body by distributing weight evenly. In practice this means fewer pressure points at your hips and shoulders.
- Springs. Rows of hourglass shaped springs joined top and bottom by spiral helical wires, forming an interconnected open coil system. Expect a traditional, springy firm feel rather than isolated, independent support.

- Room for two without dominating the room: At 135cm wide the UK double gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing, in a footprint that leaves space for wardrobes and drawers in most bedrooms.
- Boxed delivery suits awkward access: The mattress arrives rolled and compressed, which means turning staircases in older terraces or tight new build landings are far less of a problem than with a flat mattress.
- Firm support across the shared surface: The reflex foam core distributes weight evenly, so both sleepers get the same supportive, traditional feel from edge to centre.
- Easy to dress on any budget: Standard double sheets and a 200 x 200cm duvet fit, and both are stocked everywhere at every price, handy if you're furnishing a whole home at once.
- A sensible pick for a guest room: A firm, hypo-allergenic double at a modest price works well as a family guest bed that has to accommodate visiting couples.
This size suits you if...
You're a couple in a typical UK bedroom and want the traditional shared size, or you're setting up a first flat or guest room where the bed has to leave space for a wardrobe and drawers. It also suits solo sleepers who like room to stretch out, or who share with a dog or cat that claims a corner every night.
Consider another size if...
Your bedroom is smaller than our suggested 2.6m x 2.8m minimum, or you can't fit bedside tables on both sides. In that case we'd recommend the UK small double instead, which keeps room for two while freeing up floor space.

Is the Highgrove Vancouver UK double wide enough for two adults?
It gives 67.5cm each for two people sharing, which most couples find workable, though it's cosier than a UK king. One point specific to this mattress: the open coil springs are interconnected, so on a shared double you will notice a partner turning more than you would on pocket springs.
Will the Highgrove Vancouver UK double fit up narrow stairs?
It should, because it arrives vacuum-packed and rolled in a box rather than flat. That makes the turning staircases of older terraces and the tight landings of new builds much easier to manage. Once unrolled it expands to its full 135 x 190cm, so unbox it in the bedroom itself.
What room size do I need for the UK double Vancouver?
We suggest a room of at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That allows the 135 x 190cm mattress plus walking space, and in most rooms of that size you'll still fit bedside tables on both sides, which a UK king often rules out.
Is the UK double a good size for a guest room?
Yes, arguably the best. It accommodates visiting couples in a way a UK single can't, and its footprint leaves room for the wardrobe and drawers most guest rooms double as storage for. The firm feel and hypo-allergenic fibre fillings suit occasional use by a mix of guests.
How much smaller is the double than the king in this mattress?
The UK double is 15cm narrower than the UK king, and the imperial measurement is 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in. If your room comfortably exceeds our suggested minimum and you'd like more elbow room, the Highgrove Vancouver also comes in a UK king, but in most standard bedrooms the double is the better balance of bed against floor space.
