Cover
A stretch knit fabric with a quilted finish. This gives the sleep surface a soft, slightly cushioned top layer against the firm build beneath.
Fillings
White fibre fillings, a lightweight, high loft material that holds its shape over time. They are also hypo-allergenic, which helps if you're prone to allergies.
Foam Core
A reflex foam core that conforms to your body by distributing weight evenly. In practice this means fewer pressure points at your hips and shoulders.
Springs
Rows of hourglass shaped springs joined top and bottom by spiral helical wires, forming an interconnected open coil system. Expect a traditional, springy firm feel rather than isolated, independent support.
Layer details from archerssleepcentre.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Real space for one sleeper: At 120cm wide, this is 30cm more than a UK single, which means a solo adult can turn and sprawl without an elbow hanging off the edge.
- Fits a compact double bedroom: It's 15cm narrower than a UK double, often the difference between a door that clears the bed frame and one that doesn't.
- Boxed delivery suits awkward rooms: It arrives rolled and vacuum-packed, so carrying it into a loft conversion or up a tight staircase is genuinely manageable.
- Firm support across the full width: The interconnected open coil springs and reflex foam core give the same even, traditional firm feel from edge to edge.
- A sensible guest room compromise: Couples can share it for occasional weekend stays, so it works in a second bedroom where nobody sleeps every night.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a UK single but your room can't take a full double; you're furnishing a box room, loft conversion or studio where 15cm of width decides whether you can still stand beside the bed; or you need a guest bed that couples can share a few weekends a year. Allow at least 2.4m x 2.8m of floor space, our suggestion rather than the brand's.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, because interconnected open coils transfer movement and 120cm leaves little personal space for two. We'd recommend the UK double instead, which gives couples an extra 15cm of width.

Is a small double big enough for one adult on the Highgrove Vancouver?
Comfortably, yes. At 120cm wide it gives you 30cm more than a UK single, and the firm open coil build feels consistent right across that width. If you like to starfish or you read in bed, the extra room is the whole point of this size.
Can a couple sleep on the small double Highgrove Vancouver?
For occasional nights, yes, which is why it suits guest rooms. Every night is harder to recommend: at 120cm it's 15cm narrower than a UK double, and the interconnected springs mean you'll feel a partner turning. Regular sharers would be better served by the UK double or UK king.
Will the small double Vancouver fit in a box room?
That's the size's strength. Being 15cm narrower than a UK double, it fits rooms a 4ft 6in bed would overwhelm. We suggest allowing at least 2.4m x 2.8m so you can still open drawers and walk round. Boxed delivery also helps where the staircase is the real obstacle.
Is the boxed small double easy to get upstairs?
Easier than a traditional flat mattress, certainly. It arrives vacuum-packed and rolled, so one or two people can carry it up a narrow staircase or into a loft conversion, then unroll it in the room where it will live. Once expanded it's a full 120 x 190cm, so unbox it in place.
What bed frame does a small double Highgrove Vancouver need?
A 4ft frame, which is a standard UK size, so bases, frames and fitted sheets are easy to find on the high street. Check your frame measures 120 x 190cm before ordering. For prices on this size, compare the retailers listed on this page; they're updated as retailers change them.
