Layer Details
- Cover. A knit cover designed to feel cool and ultra soft, with breathable micro-dots that move air outwards. In practice, that should help the surface stay fresher through the night.
- Emma AirGrid™ Tech. Emma's most advanced AirGrid™ layer, a flexible grid engineered to adapt to your body. It is there for pressure relief, flexing where you press into it rather than pushing back evenly.
- MemoryAdapt layer. This is the layer that gives the first comforting hug, responding to your body with immediate cushioning to relieve pressure. In the Performance 30 it is 4.5 cm thick, deeper than in other models in the range.
- SupportBase. A 6.5 cm foam layer that keeps you supported in every zone, easing strain on sensitive pressure points. It also creates a smooth transition down to the core layers, so you shouldn't feel a sudden change in firmness.
- Zoned pocket springs. Zoned pocket springs add bounce, extra support and stability, which means the mattress responds when you move rather than leaving you feeling stuck. They also reduce motion transfer, a quiet benefit for couples.
- SupportBase. A second foam layer that grounds the zoned spring core and keeps the mattress structure stable. Think of it as the foundation the rest of the build sits on.
- Bottom cover. A simple base cover that keeps the mattress in place on your bed frame.

- The classic shared size: At 135 x 190cm you get 67.5cm each for two people sharing, enough for most couples in a standard UK bedroom.
- Less disturbance side by side: The zoned pocket springs reduce motion transfer, which matters more in a UK double where you sleep closer together than in a UK king.
- Fits rooms a king would crowd: The UK double is 15cm narrower than the UK king, often the difference between keeping bedside tables on both sides and losing one.
- Deep cushioning for two: The 4.5cm MemoryAdapt layer and AirGrid™ Tech give each of you pressure relief at the surface, even with different sleeping positions.
- Easy to dress: Standard double sheets and a 200 x 200cm double duvet are stocked everywhere, handy if you're furnishing a whole home and bedding is one more line on the list.
This size suits you if...
You share the bed every night and your room is a typical UK double bedroom, where a bigger size would leave no space to walk round. It also suits you if you're kitting out a first flat or a guest room that needs to work for visiting couples, since the UK double is the size most people expect to find when they stay.
Consider another size if...
You and your partner both like to spread out, or one of you is a restless sleeper and you keep waking each other. If the room allows it, we'd recommend the UK king instead, which is 15cm wider.

Is the Emma Performance 30 in a UK double big enough for a couple?
For most couples, yes. The UK double is Britain's traditional shared size, giving 67.5cm each for two people sharing. The mattress helps here too: its zoned pocket springs reduce motion transfer, so a partner turning over is less likely to wake you. Larger or restless couples may prefer the UK king, which is 15cm wider.
What size room do I need for a UK double Emma Performance 30?
We suggest allowing at least 2.6m x 2.8m, with around 3m x 3m the comfortable norm. That gives you space to open a wardrobe and walk round the bed. If you want bedside tables on both sides, measure the wall the bed sits against before committing, as they add roughly a table's width each side.
Should I get the Emma Performance 30 in a double or a king?
It usually comes down to your room. The UK double is 15cm narrower than the UK king, which can be the difference between a room that works and one where you sidle past the bed. If your bedroom comfortably exceeds 3m x 3m and you share every night, size up. In a typical double bedroom, stick with the UK double.
Will a UK double fit up the stairs in an older house?
The Emma Performance 30 arrives rolled and boxed, which makes tight turns on a terraced staircase or a narrow new build landing far more manageable than a traditional mattress would be. Once unrolled it expands to its full 135 x 190cm, so plan the route to the bedroom before you open the box, not after.
Is a UK double too big for one person?
Not at all. At 135 x 190cm it's 45cm wider than the UK single, which is generous for a solo sleeper who likes to spread out, or one who shares with a cat or dog that claims a corner. The deep MemoryAdapt cushioning means you sink into your side rather than rolling to the middle.
