Layer Details
- Cover. A knit cover designed to feel cool and ultra soft, with breathable micro-dots that move air outwards. In practice, that should help the surface stay fresher through the night.
- Emma AirGrid™ Tech. Emma's most advanced AirGrid™ layer, a flexible grid engineered to adapt to your body. It is there for pressure relief, flexing where you press into it rather than pushing back evenly.
- MemoryAdapt layer. This is the layer that gives the first comforting hug, responding to your body with immediate cushioning to relieve pressure. In the Performance 30 it is 4.5 cm thick, deeper than in other models in the range.
- SupportBase. A 6.5 cm foam layer that keeps you supported in every zone, easing strain on sensitive pressure points. It also creates a smooth transition down to the core layers, so you shouldn't feel a sudden change in firmness.
- Zoned pocket springs. Zoned pocket springs add bounce, extra support and stability, which means the mattress responds when you move rather than leaving you feeling stuck. They also reduce motion transfer, a quiet benefit for couples.
- SupportBase. A second foam layer that grounds the zoned spring core and keeps the mattress structure stable. Think of it as the foundation the rest of the build sits on.
- Bottom cover. A simple base cover that keeps the mattress in place on your bed frame.

- Fits where other sizes can't: At 90cm wide it slots under loft slopes and between wardrobes and desks, leaving usable floor space in rooms where a UK double simply wouldn't.
- Full-spec comfort for one: The 4.5cm MemoryAdapt layer and zoned pocket springs are identical to the larger sizes, so a solo sleeper gets the same enveloping cushioning, just narrower.
- Two singles in one room: Siblings sharing a bedroom can fit two UK singles with a walkway between, something no shared larger size allows.
- A guest bed people remember kindly: In a spare room that doubles as an office, the deep AirGrid and memory foam build gives occasional guests a genuinely comfortable night rather than a token one.
- Easy to dress: Standard single sheets and a 135 x 200cm single duvet fit, and they are the cheapest and most widely stocked bedding of any UK size.
This size suits you if...
You're buying for one sleeper and space is tight: a child's room where the bed competes with toy storage and a desk, a student flat where the frame came with the room but the mattress didn't, or a spare room set up for a few guest nights a year. It also suits a solo adult who wants Emma's deepest cushioning without paying for width they'd never use.
Consider another size if...
You're an adult who spreads out in your sleep, or you occasionally share the bed, because 90cm is snug for anything beyond one still sleeper. We'd recommend the UK small double instead, which gives you 30cm more width for a solo sleeper who likes room to move.

Is the Emma Performance 30 single suitable for a bunk or mid sleeper frame?
Be careful here. The Performance 30 is the tallest build in Emma's Performance range, and bunk and mid-sleeper frames have guard rails with strict depth limits. Emma doesn't publish frame compatibility for this size, so measure from the base of your frame to the top of the guard rail and check against the mattress depth before buying.
Will the Emma Performance 30 in a UK single fit a small bedroom?
Almost certainly. The mattress itself is 90 x 190cm, and we suggest allowing at least 2.1m x 2.8m of floor space so you can open drawers and change the bedding without a squeeze. That makes it a realistic fit for box rooms, loft conversions with a narrow footprint and children's rooms already busy with storage.
Is a UK single Emma Performance 30 big enough for an adult?
For one adult, yes, though it's the minimum rather than the comfortable ideal. You get 90cm of width and 190cm of length, fine if you sleep fairly still. Restless sleepers or anyone used to sharing space will feel the edges. The UK single is 45cm narrower than the UK double, which is a real difference night to night.
Should a teenager have the single or the small double Emma Performance 30?
The UK single is 30cm narrower than the UK small double, so the decision is mostly about the room. If the bed shares the space with a wardrobe, desk and floor to actually live on, the UK single wins. If the room can spare the width, a growing teenager will appreciate the UK small double for the years ahead.
Does the single make sense as a guest bed?
Yes, particularly if you host one guest at a time or want two beds rather than one. Two UK singles suit a spare room set up for separate guests, and the Performance 30's memory foam and zoned springs mean visitors aren't getting a compromise mattress. It's a premium spend for occasional use, though, so weigh how often the room is slept in.
