Layer Details
Cover
A knit cover designed to feel cool and ultra soft, with breathable micro-dots that move air outwards. In practice, that should help the surface stay fresher through the night.
Emma AirGrid™ Tech
Emma's most advanced AirGrid™ layer, a flexible grid engineered to adapt to your body. It is there for pressure relief, flexing where you press into it rather than pushing back evenly.
MemoryAdapt layer
This is the layer that gives the first comforting hug, responding to your body with immediate cushioning to relieve pressure. In the Performance 30 it is 4.5 cm thick, deeper than in other models in the range.
SupportBase
A 6.5 cm foam layer that keeps you supported in every zone, easing strain on sensitive pressure points. It also creates a smooth transition down to the core layers, so you shouldn't feel a sudden change in firmness.
Zoned pocket springs
Zoned pocket springs add bounce, extra support and stability, which means the mattress responds when you move rather than leaving you feeling stuck. They also reduce motion transfer, a quiet benefit for couples.
SupportBase
A second foam layer that grounds the zoned spring core and keeps the mattress structure stable. Think of it as the foundation the rest of the build sits on.
Bottom cover
A simple base cover that keeps the mattress in place on your bed frame.
Layer details from emma-sleep.co.uk product page, September 2026.
- Real space for one: The UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, which means a solo sleeper can roll, stretch and change position without meeting the edge.
- Fits compact double bedrooms: At 15cm narrower than the UK double, this size can leave walking room in a box room or studio where a bigger frame simply would not.
- Deep cushioning across the full width: The 4.5cm MemoryAdapt layer runs edge to edge, so a solo sleeper who moves around gets the same enveloping feel wherever they settle.
- Copes with occasional sharing: The zoned pocket springs reduce motion transfer, useful when a partner or guest joins for the odd night on the narrower width.
- Easy to dress: 4ft is a standard UK size, so small double fitted sheets and frames are simple to find, and a standard double duvet works well on top.
This size suits you if...
You sleep alone and have outgrown a UK single but your room can't spare the floor space a UK double demands, you're furnishing a guest room or holiday let where couples stay a few weekends a year rather than nightly, or you're downsizing and the bed has to suit the new room rather than the old one.
Consider another size if...
You share the bed every night, because 120cm is a squeeze for two people long term. We'd recommend the UK double instead, or the UK king if your room stretches to it.

Is a small double Emma Performance 30 big enough for a couple?
For occasional nights, yes. The zoned pocket springs keep motion transfer low, so a restless partner is less disruptive, and the cushioning is consistent across the 120cm width. For every night, two adults will feel the squeeze, and the UK double or UK king of this mattress would serve you better.
What room size do I need for the Emma Performance 30 small double?
We suggest allowing at least 2.4m x 2.8m. That gives you space to open the door, walk down one side of the bed and fit a slim bedside table. In a loft conversion or box room, measure carefully before ordering: the mattress itself is 120 x 190cm.
How much bigger is the small double than a single?
The UK small double is 30cm wider than the UK single, at the same 190cm length. That extra width is the whole appeal for a solo adult, or a teenager who has outgrown a UK single, in a room that can't absorb the footprint of a full UK double.
What bedding fits the Emma Performance 30 in a small double?
You'll need small double (4ft) fitted sheets to match the 120 x 190cm dimensions, and a standard double duvet sits nicely on top with a little overhang each side. Because 4ft is a standard UK size, bedding is easy to find on the high street and online.
